It's moreso that the existing power structure where mercenary commercial interests control everything should be dismantled, and taking rich people's money is a necessary step in doing so, because otherwise they'll use it to forestall meaningful reform. The money itself is immaterial they're just like toddlers who need to have their toy taken away because they've proved they can't handle the responsibility
