On the topic of abortion and remains
My wife and I have decided to terminate our pregnancy. Our child is confirmed to have anencephaly. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d have to make such a decision. We determined that if we do not terminate, we will not have another one for at least another 2.5 years, and by that time my wife could maybe have one more before 30 if we’re lucky. By terminating, we can have many more before she is 30. As of now, the child is on the verge of sensory and they should not “feel” anything. I have prayed endlessly and believe this is what God wants, for better or worse.
Thus, I have another dilemma. Our state classifies fetal remains as “medical waste” and requires it be incinerated, or they hand the remains to a funeral home for burial. We wanted to have the remains the bury on our property as part of an eventual family plot (just my wife and I, and our children and all descendants onwards – just our lineage) but every funeral home and hospital has stated it is the law that we do not receive any remains other than ashes. My concern is that they will sell the remains for research, and hand us a box of ashes from their crematorium, but we’ll never receive our child’s remains.
Morally, I disagree with abortion for any reason. However, I believe God wants us to terminate now for a prolonged future. My child will be in Heaven with their family before, and we will meet them one day when it is our time. I also morally disagree with cremation, but it seems we have no choice in this matter. If a funeral home can take possession of our child, why can’t we? My wife refuses to carry on, and if we’re going to terminate, it is better now before the cusp than after, when they are more aware, even if only slightly given their condition.
I work in medicine, and I hate everything about medicine. What, if any, are the solutions?

Jannies, this is about as political as can be. You’ve already got enough slide threads and fluff; this is fairly fitting on this board. Abortion is the most politically divisive subject. Respectfully, fuck off.

Depends on the disease. Would it be a poor quality of life? I would want to be aborted if the physical deformity was significant, or cognitive issues at all. You do what you have to, just keep in mind the consequences for either choice were your own. I hope my wife and I have no issues once we have ours.

I’m sorry you are going through that anon. I’m not Christian and impersonally don’t have any problem with abortion so idk if my words will mean much to you but I am sorry you are at such a terrible cross roads. Just have more kids man and take good care of them and love them a lot. A man has to make hard decisions in life but that is part of being a man.

It has no brain. No seat of the soul. If born it would not speak, it would not think. It is not a person. It is a body.

The child may not even make it to the end. Due to a malfunction early on in development, they are missing nearly all of their skull, and consequently will be born without a skull, most of their brain, and if they do survive birth, will at best live a couple months on every life-support system.

The brain does, in fact, store the soul.
By thinking about itself it becomes a recursive, self maintaining force in the very fabric of the universe capable of altering the course of destiny simply by - looking at things.
And to date, no one has figured out if any other animals can collapse wave functions. Our consciousness may be our own future brain deciding what to do in the present.

There are not any solutions. My friends a long time ago had a baby with this condition. The entire family just treated her as they did the rest of the kids. She was a toddler and could only make noises but she did smile a lot when everyone played with her or talked to her and she'd get really excited and move around. You could easily tell what the condition was but they just carried on as normal. Eventually the husband left so I guess it started taking a toll.
Whatever remains you receive the most important is the little marker. Your grandkids won't even bother remembering anyone in the line unless curious when they get old. After that, it's just a silent marker nobody but Lamont at Large will ever take notice of.
Sorry about your plight. Just go with what brings the least amount of stress so you two can move forward.

Your gonna be ok bro just keep the urn on your property. I doubt they are going to not respect your wishes if they cremate. If you are that paranoid about it go the funeral home route that way at least you can have a place to visit even if they won’t let you bury on your property. It really does suck bro my heart goes out to you. I used to be Christian and as I understand god doesn’t punish people who repent so you and your wife will be fine as long as you are serious in your plea for forgiveness. Sometimes bad things happen to good people and god has a tremendous capacity for understanding. Sometimes we do everything right in life and he still throws adversity in their lives to keep them humble. It is what it is personally I’m not one for keeping my faith in that adversity but you seem to be a better man then I.

Abortion being the termination of an ongoing life is a medical fact. It's not a religious thing.
The question is where's the limit? Some people equate 1:1 to murder but I don't think that's entirely true.
What if the birth puts in high risk the life of the mother? Leaving many children motherless. Many parents will give their lives to save their children. But I would have forgiven my mother if she had aborted me so my brothers don't grow without a mother, you can take that to the bank.

you shouldn't concern yourself with what "God wants".
He isn't in your shoes.
Make your own decisions and stand by them.
Whoever made this place would rather you have good reasons for what you do, regardless of whatever that is. They put thought into creation, you put thought into your actions to honor that.
