Yes, that's what the AR is, a turbocharged .22. In it's default setting with 55gr ammo, it was designed to send very high velocity, small diameter bullets that would penetrate soft tissue, and fragment resulting in a mini-kinetic explosion which is devastating to soft tissue. But, it is also notorious for "icepicking" through thin tissue, just a .~22 sized hole zipping right through.
