The most dangerous thing about this type of thinking is that it can lead you to be an irresponsible father because you have come to the conclusion that fatherhood doesn't really matter.
I almost fell for this trap. A girl I was fucking in my early 20s decided she wanted a kid and I agreed to start dumping loads into her. In my thinking it didn't matter that I didn't see a future with this girl or have any job or qualifications and was dealing with drug issues. I never met my dad or had a step dad or anything and as far as I was concerned that was not an issue.
I wasn't planning to dip out of this kids life, but I also didn't see it as a commitment either and figured I could be as involved or uninvolved as I felt like.
Anyway she got cold feet after a few weeks of trying and so no kid ever came to be with us.
And thank fuck because now I am a decade older I realise that having a father in your life is very important and the guilt I would have ended up feeling over being a shit father, regardless of how much effort I tried to put in, would have fucked me up for the rest of my life.
