It's not a "spacecraft" (at least not a technological one). Star are simply too far away to resolve anything more then a pin of light, regardless of how powerful of a telescope you have. Even a very large star like betelguese resolves into a pinprick for something like hubble. Us knowing how big it is, is because we know how bright it appears to us and combined that with the light telling us how far away it via redshift or using the movement over time and parallax for closer stars.
