im starting the think the world is really ending. there most likely is some sort of ragnarok/apocalypse event that happens every 3000-4000 years. im not sure of the exact timeline but the earth resets every few thousand years and most people die, and we have to start over. this has actually happened multiple times. we all know about noahs ark, but also atlantis, the oera linda, many folk traditions around the world speak of this and its why there are so many wierd pyramids and features discovered around the world that no one understands because they had different tech and then the world reset. I'm not necesarily arguing that we're near the limit of population supportable by the earth but simply that eventually we will hit that limit.
Hitting that limit the hard way would result in mass die offs and be rather unpleasant. Slowly lowering the birth rate means we don't have such a terrible crash.

As if it were bad news that this country has a collapsing birthrate. There are large swaths of concrete jungle poverty that make up the outer parts of the the big cities here. Many people have kids at an age they shouldn't be here. There is no issue with people having less kids. Not all trends are meant to be reproduced in all societies. If this were an affluent place with many geniuses walking around that would be concerning, but that isn't the reality here and in many Latin American countries.

Not at all. Even if you are totally ignoring necessity for growth in modern economic systems, even just maintenance of society requires a healthy youthful population to work jobs continuously. Roads crack, buildings crumble, plumbing bursts. If we're going to accept that population really is going to contract like we're letting it then the entirety of our societies need to be geared towards upkeep of infrastructure immediately in the hopes that AI can handle all the other shit. But that's not what's going to happen. They're going to let our nations get older, and then when we are too old and there's too few of us they'll turn the immigration back on to full blast and that will be the end of it.
