Finnish President @alexstubb: "I think in the past two weeks, we've probably had more progress in ending this war than we have in the past three and a half years."

this may be wasted on you, but I'll try.
have you noticed how repetitive national leaders are?
that's because they are legally obligated to assert their country's position.
"State silence may entail acquiescence and can thus contribute to the formation of historic rights, the identification of customary international law, and the interpretation of treaties over time."
someone who listens to national leaders before, during, and after the alaska and D.C. conferences can make predictions based on how their nauseatingly repetitive statements, which we've heard a million times already, evolve over time. that includes the absence of those statements. in this case it means avoiding questions when just last week zelensky would been obligated to say some version of "we will not, and in fact legally cannot, transfer land."
the overton window is shifting. learn to see it. or if you're too lazy to watch the primary sources, learn to identify others who can see it by the verisimilitude of their posts.

Nothing, the demands of both sides remain the same. Since the beginning of the war, there has been no rapprochement or significant concessions. Trump has obtained nothing from Putin or Zelensky, only promises on minor issues. Both sides don't want to anger him by being seen as an obstacle, so they pretend to grant him minor concessions while accusing the other side of sabotaging the peace.

Yes, that's obvious. You are wasting everyone's time.
Zelensky's exact quote is "The question of territory is a question that we will leave between me and Putin."
All that reveals is he's learned not to tall about territory with Trump. It doesn't change anything else. You can choose to read into it, but you're guessing.
When Bibi said he wanted a peace deal 2 years ago, did it matter? Or did it just keep him stocked with American weapons. If you want to talk about learning international politics, you can start by noticing our role is first and foremost as an arms dealer. Everything else, all the nice public diplomacy and joking around with Trump, is anchored to that.

>no rapprochement or significant concessions
you're not paying attention

euro leaders have downgraded from NATO integration complete with bases and missile sites, to "article 5-like guarantees" which is means an optional defense pact.
they conceded to negotiations without a ceasefire first.
they downgraded their approach to land swaps from "absolutely no" to silence.
russia has conceded to them signing the optional defense pact.
russia has conceded its demand for regime change and constitutional changes.
these are only the significant changes from last week. there have been many concessions of lesser significance by both sides.
if you're not going to pay attention to events, don't pretend you have knowledge to share.

>When Bibi said he wanted a peace deal 2 years ago, did it matter?
that statement does not implicate an assertion of national rights, where silence would be interpreted as acquiescence.
in contrast, it's highly significant that zelensky has switched from saying "I will not, and legally cannot, discuss territory" to "I can, and will, discuss territory with russia"
he even leapt over two or three intervening positions on the way there
as you get better at spotting statements that are actually assertions and reservations of national rights, you'll amaze your friends and colleagues with your predictions

Here's the problem with that statement. We have at least as much reason to believe Zelensky would say this for the express diplomatic purpose of appeasing Trump in the meeting yesterday as we do anything else. And you're not considering the layers of Ukrainian politics that would have to change to approve that. All you have is one example of Zelensky saying the right thing to continue receiving military aid. If it starts a trend, then you can begin making judgments. You are jumping the gun.

I would add: it is an official statement on a matter that clearly implicates asserting or reserving national rights.
last week and pretty much since 2014, that statement was something else entirely.
recall that "State silence may entail acquiescence and can thus contribute to the formation of historic rights, the identification of customary international law, and the interpretation of treaties over time."
I can help you verify this assertion, if you'd only ask questions. should I preemptively give you arguments from historical example, or arguments from international legal experts? if you don't want to learn how to make better predictions
> And you're not considering the layers of Ukrainian politics that would have to change to approve that.
of course I am. you didn't ask, though. it's a simple amendment of whatever ukrainians call their basic law, which I'm 100% confidence the president's parliamentary coalition can do. I am observing the process of them selling their MPs and constituents on it right now. feel free to ask me what I've observed in that regard, and I'll forgive your stupid assertion that I haven't had time to consider the constitutional implications of various outcomes in the last 14 years.
