Virgil's Aeneid just because. I'd even recomend anons start with this because it's almost a millenia closer to us.

If you only get one book on metalworking, get this one. It's all 3 books of his. He was a Dutch merchant marine, master machinist, blacksmith, and closed out as a sculptor. Book is heavily illustrated with his own drawings and will reorder how you look at projects, think, and work.

I wasn't that impressed by the technological society. He has entire chapter dedicated to extending his assumptions into the future and most of them are crackhead tier at best. Ultimately it's a descriptive book about how technology advances but offers very little in practical application. It also fails to see the forest for the trees in how technical advancements in one field can dominate all others. I.e. the advancements in financial have drained advancements in other fields like aerospace or infrastructure.

Decline of the west is ok. I like Spengler's admiration for the titanic intellect that was Goethe, however his tendency to fit societies into one neat lifecycle is ultimately his downfall. The answers given for places like China, India, Russia, or the United States defy his model and category even amongst themselves. I like generalist thought but Spengler is probably B tier.
