My guess and this is true of most serious Christians is that we can get a better spot or more rewards the better we do on earth. Charity is the number one way to get rewards in heaven. So the baseline to entry is believing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. He fulfilled every prophecy and his shed blood protects us from eternal death. That is the baseline.

Helping the sick the poor the children and the weak are high priority targets. Tithing is an optional but recommended strategy to gain God's blessings. Giving to the poor is one of the more important acts of charity if you can't do another service like healing the sick, etc.
