Chinese Donbas
Even if Russia keep Donbas and whatever else in eastern Ukraine, they'll NEVER be able to afford rebuilding and running it. It'd be civil war within 10 years as the people see west Ukraine en-route to be Poland 2.0.

Their ONLY way out is to let China come in and build '''21st century cities''' all connected by insane transportation. This will involve the mass importation of Asians (nothing new to Russia).

With Crimea and East Ukraine, China have a perfect staging ground for European trade, and can pivot European power westards under a red flag. Turkey building a 2nd Bosphorus will improve traffic here, too.

The east will have to be developed better than the west for it to be sustainable. If people see they backed the wrong side, they won't be happy.

Ukraine's in a good spot for massive gibs if China/Russia try to outdevelop cities funded by EU/USA in some type of developmental Cold War.

Post-war will be a model for the rest of the world as in who they should trust more with their futures. If the west of Ukraine is hung out to dry, it's gg for "the West".

Won't happen. Chinks can as well build infrastructure in Balkans without all that fuss involved with Russia and Ukraine. Money loves silence and that is the loudest place in Europe.

The EU and USA don't have the resources to build anything.

This might even be part of the peace deal, I wouldn't count out Chinese troops at Donbass...to counter balance European troops at Ukraine.

There were already plans drawn up afaik as to which countries were going to take which regions. Vaguely remember something like:
>Uk = Kyiv
>Germany = Donbas
>France = Odesa
>Poland = Lviv
or something along these lines.

I think China would be missing a huge opportunity if they didn't go all in an eastern rebuild. It'd demonstrate global superiority in international development, and give the locals "a chance to build a Chinese life in Europe", etc.

The Balkans geographically are absolutely useless for trade though. As long as a highway from Istanbul to Vienna is maintained, that's all which is needed.

A Ukraine base allows for influencing the entire east of Europe and Central Asia via the Black Sea.
The region has lots of undeveloped land with water and fertile soils..... It's a perfect place for mass migration.

Eastern Europe can be supplied through Balkans and Central Asia is directly connected to China, which means there's no reason to do any logistical hub on foreign territory.

Especially Russian territory that is cutted from rest of Europe by iron curtain 2.0. Even before war in Ukraine, China was searching for trade route that excludes Russia. Now that the worst that could happen, happened, it's a necessity.

Even if corruption in post-war Ukraine is tamed enough to build actual infrastructure (because it was absolutely awful), it's in nobody's interest to build infrastructure that connects it to territories taken by Russians.

Chinks won't get there either, just like they didn't invested in DMZ on North Korean side to do business with both Koreas (economic zone in Rason is as far from DMZ as possible). It's insane.
