Regardless, I'm busting ass to make sure that we have the most stable, up to date version of our application in production before the end of the month so that if my team dissolves the users still have something they can use even if we are no longer around to maintain it. Why? Because our application helps veterans get treated for life-threatening illnesses, and making sure that they still get care is a bigger concern to me personally than whether or not I still have work in a month. I know I can get another job somewhere else if I need to, but if we let these veterans fall through the cracks they're just fucked.

I work with DOT regulated welded products. Part of the process is making sure your drawings, materials, mill test reports, ASTM, ASME standards are compliant, any rohs/reach, regs. are adhered to, etc. This means if something goes wrong even with welding, an NCP is generated, non conforming product (later goes into reporting). Testing of welds is rigorous: x-rays, flattening, hydrostatic etc. It's important that these products are finished correctly and copied exactly. Records need to be maintained, etc. Most companies have an ISO certification for this process. Welders themselves need to be certified. They are often a good bunch of people. The paperwork and how people want it makes it difficult to automate, also you have to be insanely turbo detail oriented to do most of it. My job has me worry less about what people think, want (often money through products shipping), than the regulations and correct paperwork 100% of the time. Also there are 8Ds, those meetings suck. There's more to it, but Quality Assurance is your friend, so long as you go to them forst. Don't let Quality seek you out. It sucks.

Keep looking. Even if it is more work and/or less pay long term it could still be a better option. I was in the same boat a few years ago and while looking a company I didn't even know hired my profession (property management) called me up after seeing my resume on indeed and that I was looking. It was like a 50% pay increase so I took it and while it is more work, this company will pay for my MBA and let me do the class work during office hours.

I'm older and I work with a lot of younger co-workers, training and working alongside. 70%+ are just fine. The 30% who, decades ago, would be easily distracted slackers have now been replaced by people with noticeable social, mental, and ethical disorders.
