I used Linux for a long time but then switched back to Windows because there was a couple games I wanted to play that you can't play on Linux because of some anticheat software
I think Linux is overall better for everything though if you know how to use it
Never really understood the hate for systemd, so I'd just use a minimal net install of Arch, that way I get to decide what all the programs I want on my computer are and it's not bloated with shit. Minimal net install of Debian is also nice, pretty much the same thing as Arch except the package management is different.
Vim for text editing
I think I used XFCE desktop environment because it's lightweight and pretty intuitive and minimal. My second choice would be KDE
Love the customization of Linux and the file system hierarchy and basically everything about it
