Why Are AMERICAN HONEYBEES Dying?
62% of American Honeybees have died in the past 6 months.

Maybe ALL American Honeybees will die before 2025 ends.

Why?

Honeybees are literally grown like cattle and shipped to wherever they are needed. There's an entire industry for it. They will be fine. There are over 20,000 species of bees, many of which pollinate flowers that cannot be pollinated by honeybees. Those are the ones we have to worry about

The last step the SCOTUS need to take is to ban Class Action Suits (they annoy corporations), and they've been debating advancing that the last few years.

Maybe more profitable and better. Seems like all those almond orchards could be intercropped with wildflowers and have permanent hives set up. Iโ€™d set it up so thereโ€™s few flowers in bloom during the almond pollination season, then continuous bloom for as much of the year as possible. Those big commercial guys are trucking in bees just for the pollination, feeding them, not collecting honey, working them to death and needing to replace them.

I bought 5 hives this year and I'm a beginner, I will know this winter how hard it is to make them live through winter (Quรฉbec in zone 4), I suspect that the pesticides and the business of loading bees on a truck to go pollinate a monocultural field of avocados or almonds for edxemple is where the majority of the dead hives come from.

I've read that in South-America the varroa parasite infect every hives but that the hive is so strong because of the lack of winter that the hives just won't die from it.

Maybe. I havenโ€™t crunched numbers on it. I know that after a five year retool regenerative farming would have larger yields and produce more profit than current industrial farming. But, youโ€™d loose short term profits and since American corps donโ€™t give a shit about anything other than short term profits, they wonโ€™t change unless theyโ€™re forced to. You need to change status quo thinking, which is damn near impossible without cataclysm.

The Big Problem is the decline of industrial farming bees. You have massive areas of monocrop that don't host a native bee population, because everything blooms at exactly the same time, and the bees have no reason to linger thereabouts. Also there is no hive habitat, just wide expanses of heavily pesticided flat fields. And then you need to truck in a shit-ton of hives to pollinate, and pray Jimmy Dumbfuck doesn't roll the semi AGAIN and kill a quarter billion bees.
All of which is rough on the bees, even if the truck makes it.

Nice, leafbro - I've got three hives. Take a look inside this fall once temps drop and see if the ball o' bees inside your hive is as large as a basketball - if so, they will be fine over winter. if smaller, combine the hives by dumping em in from one hive into another so you have that size a grouping. Better to have 2-3 hives survive than none.

i think its the pollination industry
in a lot of countries bees only spend a short time pollinating monoculture crops
but in the states theres a lot more farmland over a wide range of climates, so the pollination season is a lot longer
pollination is hard hives because of the transportation, the lack of variety in their diet, and the spreading of diseases when so many hives are placed close together
if you leave your bees in a permanent location with good forage youll have a lot less dead outs and disease
the problem is a lot of bee keepers make more money off of pollination than they do selling honey

Feed them with sugar solutions before the winter, better chances of survival.
Also, if you are unlucky, the weather will stay warm in September, causing the queen to plant the eggs, which then they hace to heat for weeks. So, watch out for that, and feed as necessary.
Anonymous (ID: bMdN62RG) Australia No.513593832
Bees don't care for grass, and decorative flowers don't do anything for them. They get what they need from clover, wildflowers, dandelions, thyme, etc.

To reduce aluminium in the brains of bees, give them mint with salicylic acid and an alkaline water source.

The commercialization of the honey industry harms bees. Bees naturally create honey to feed themselves during periods of hibernation in the winter. Bee companies drain the hives completely to be able to sell more honey, replacing their natural food (raw honey) with sugar water and corn syrup. These have a lower acidity than raw honey which allows parasites to live and infect the bees. This is one of the reasons why the varroa mite has been so destructive to bee colonies, because they can survive in sugar water/corn syrup but not in raw honey.

Essential oils, such as from lemongrass, deal with mites and the bee's general health. Wintergreen works for the hive beetles, which works best when fed over a period of time instead of once or twice. It needs to be put in a syrup, but only a couple drops because itโ€™s strong. White cane sugar/water 2:1 ratio. They get angry if you apply it in the hive and will beard on the front until the smell dissipates. Itโ€™s easier and more effective to feed it to them.

In the US, varroa mites were brought in by honeybees out of Asia via trade with China. These mites can be dealt with via a teaspoon of oxalic acid, heated until vaporizing and inserted into hive. The oxalic vapours "crack" the mites shell open and they die. No harm to the bees.

Could inoculate the hive with a wood fungus that the mites hate.

Varroa isn't a problem in small cell hives with hygienic bees. Just switch the foundation to get a little less product and split hives where bees clean mites off each other. Modern beekeeping parallels society almost perfectly; let the weak die instead of propping them up with endless meds and handouts, otherwise the system will collapse under their dead weight.

I'm not confident enough to combine beehives but I get the idea, I watched videos of it.
I will feed the hives this autumn and hopefully things will go well.
I'm in a somewhat isolated place with my bees, there are lot of flowers and trees so they can stay healthy, and the neighbor's thyme propagated itself everywhere on my lawn and the bees are.always foraging it so I think I have a great spot for beehives.
I tasted my honey a few weeks ago when I got rid of some archaic construction on my most dynamic hive and the taste was really but reallyy good, way better than the one my parents bought from a guy that has 3 hives about 5 km from me.
Today the hives were super active it was almost scary to go near, their stings don't hurt at all though, except if they get you on a weak spot.

Schizos will blame China for poisoning our honeybees, or the WEF to make us eat ze bugs.

Truth is, none of the invasive plants or insects like the Spotted Lantern fly are the direct fault of China, you can blame Japan for the Stink bug. Asian murder hornets, etc. it's all linked to trade routes. We have outbreaks where the container ships are, it's inevitable that one of these bugs, or a bird dropping containing a seed from an invasive plant end up washing out into a waterway from rain or get tracked on someone's shoes and into the grass. It's a million ways, blame game is no point. Chinese gangs also are responsible for creating synthetic fentanyl and sending raw material to Mexico cartels under research protections. It is not an opium war revenge, Chinese and cartels see profit based on demand and operate under the noses of their government who condemn this. Corruption is rampant in Mexico, in China they punish these gangs by death but they are sneaky.

Honey production does not matter, all that matters is pollination. The US does not keep natural flowerbeds outside of tiny decorative beds or parks, the city code enforcement and HOA's would fine you thousands just for having anything but weekly cut lawn in order to protect "property values" and upkeep appearances. This results in people using fertilizers that are toxic to honey bees and other useful pollinators, the use of round up, the use of industrial fertilizers, it's all deadly to bees.

USA's capitalistic selfishness did this to you. All of it. Including the drugs, your demand drives supply.

China has no mites, it would be foolish to think that mites, which have existed for many years to self evolve and they are all notorious to combat including spider mites. Which can travel on birds, insects or animals.

China has had their land siezed left and right, being sued for covid, being targeted hard by the right wing. This is not a war, this is the USA's incompetence and natural evolution and a fact of life. I don't know about Chinese beekeeping agricultural practices. It may be as simple as the Chinks not moving their hives all around the country to spread diseases as far and wide as possible.

That's how varroa (and probably all the bee-killing viruses and funguses and bacteria too) got spread all over the U.S. -- the fucking moron commercial beekeepers in the "pollination industry" would truck their hives from Texas to California to Iowa to Florida to Virginia to Maine to Ohio to Montana and finally back to Texas, depending on which farms were wanting pollination in a given week. End result, varroa everyfuckingwhere, bees dying everyfuckingwhere.

I hate this chicken little bullshit about "the bees dying".

1) Beekeepers ONLY care about one thing: HONEY. They (in)breed bees to make the most honey possible. This inbreeding fucks up their whole genome and makes them highly susceptible to diseases, parasites, and stress.

2) The inbreeding also causes no genetic variation, so that a disease that kills one hive will probably kill nearly every hive IN THE WHOLE STATE too.

3) They work bees every single day of the year. They work north during the summer, and then they are shipped THOUSANDS OF MILES south during the winter. (stress)

4)ALL of their nutritious honey is stolen and replaced with artificial sugar crap mixed with soiy protein powder. (stress)

5)Because the hives are moved around so much any disease (or parasite) that hits a hive can be spread across a whole state in days, and the WHOLE CONTINENT in months.

6) Probably something about residual pesticides (especially nicotinic pesticides), but the hives are already genitally fucked, nutritionally deprived, chronically overworked, and constantly bombarded by diseases and pests (from being moved), long before they adsorb any pesticides.

Wild bees have NONE of these problems, BUT they produce lest than HALF the amount of harvestable honey for the beekeeper. There is NO problem with bees dying, and if the government actually gave a shit they would have a few thousand "wild" hives on standby for agricultural emergencies.

One of the more retarded posts I've ever read on 4chan.

>They (in)breed bees to make the most honey possible
It's impossible to control the breeding of the queen bee because it takes place on a flight away from the hive. The queen can be bred by drones from her own hive or by wild drones that join in the pursuit. This is part of how and why "Africanized bees" have spread and can't be controlled.

>They work bees every single day of the year.
No one can force bees to work. Bees are left sitting in their hives; they decide when to fly out and pollinate things and when not to fly around.

>Because the hives are moved around so much any disease (or parasite) that hits a hive can be spread across a whole state in days, and the WHOLE CONTINENT in months.

I'm not saying this is okay, because north american honeybees are one of the more chill varieties of bees, but there are like a trillion varieties of bee and bee-adjacent bugs and bugs that will quickly become bees the second the niche is open to be filled.

Because the United States is an idolatrous nation being punished for their idolatry. There were videos circulating months back of bee keepers seeing people on their property or being forced to deal with them I can't remember. But there bees were all dying afterwords so it seems it was a planned attack by someone. Since China was involved with Biden and California I'd have to wonder about that. And then you can see farm land being bought up. Also remember when those mysterious free seed packets started showing up un announced years back? Wonder how many retards planted those things. If you get a chance make spaces for bee hives in residential areas. They will possibly need water too.

In my area we have a company called mosquito squad that comes around and sprays for pests like mosquitos, ticks, sand fleas etc.. However it has a huge drawback. I used to work construction. One day Mosquito Squad showed up to do their thing on a house we were refurbishing. We took an early lunch so they could spray. The dumbass homeowners had the landscapers plant flowers that were friendly for pollinators. I remember there were at least 30 honeybees collecting nectar before we left. They were all dead when we got back. The reason I call the homeowners dumbasses is because on the one hand they plant flowers to support the honey bees, then they sanitized their whole yard. What is killing bees and causing cancer in the U.S? Pesticides. Also the county sprays for weeds. Herbicides. I remember planting a Douglas fur on the edge of my property last year in the spring. It was well watered and doing great before the county came along and did their spraying. It died the next day. I've tried multiple times to get trees to grow there. No tree I ever planted can withstand the stuff except for European Black Alders. They are the only exception. Hope this helps.

I won't even harvest the honey this year. I just like having bees around. Ill save the supers and put them out in the spring for any of them that make it, or hope a swarm moves in.
