It's a myriad of psychological tendencies which are baked straight into biology itself. It doesn't get any better, but at least knowing about stuff helps when you're trying to actually be better.

Humans are social animals and generally behave within levels of social norms and expectations. If something bad is expected within these norms, the brain makes it's own excuses just to conform to social settings. People will also generally socialize their problems while privatizing their gains. People also downplay their flaws while up-playing their positive sides.

In short, most humans are just liars that can't embrace themselves and constantly masquerade as something they are not. They do this because of a mix of social conditioning and tribal survival mentality. To go against this grain is to evoke a sensation of dread and despair that is baked into the brain, unless one is neurodivergent in a way or spends a great deal of time 'escaping'.

A few people make life incredibly shitty, and people just follow suit making life "bad" because society expects it now.

There's far more psychology on this, it's not tied to any religion, belief, or any other form of conditioning. It's basically all just how the human social brain works.

I feel your pain though, and it's one of the reasons I browse hellholes like this; to try and understand what I can't about why people behave the way they do. I feel that if I could just understand why people are as disgusting as they are in one of the worst of settings (such as here) I can understand how these things propagate.

All I've learned is that biology is a bitch and most people are doomed to be slaves to it. The sense of belonging is so unbelievably strong, people will happily commit atrocities for the sake of feeling as if they are part of a larger collective.

We are not doomed though...just extremely immature as a species; we allow people to exploit these sensations, rather than try to learn on how better to cope with these potentially dangerous thought patterns. Most simply do not have the mental capacity to think outside of their own structures and they have my eternal pity.

When someone indoctrinated into their form of accepted group sees something that may be dissonant towards their group's ideology, the first thing is usually a form of denial. This is mostly an act of self-preservation in order to blend with the group. This necessity for blending with a group is based off of old survival instincts which honestly only cause harm nowadays.

The problem comes later, when the individual must adopt all of the group's core tenets or else they risk isolation. This means legitimizing the bad parts and embracing them as their own ideology. Through this, you can have someone who was never once mentally a "part" of this kind of mindset engaging in heinous acts because of this misbegotten fear of abandonment by the group (and thusly a lack of belonging which feels like physical pain to the survival-social centers of the brain).

It's kinda...sad...man.

Hopefully it will get better someday, and we won't have to allow this part of our minds to take us over so vigorously.
