Prolly my oldest, super fragmented memory of me in my grandma's backyard watching a fresh caught fish get cleaned. Then I went inside and sat on my grandma's lap while she was on her rocking chair. That's the last time I was genuinely happy.

I'm not sure, maybe early 2008. That was the last time I had a gf, social group and prospects for the future all at the same time. That said I don't think I was actually all that happy given that I was still in high school and acutely aware that all of the things I had were temporary, that my responsibilities would only increase with time and that I didn't have the resources available to me to maximise these few golden years. It hasn't all been downhill since then, I've had money, gotten fit & met new people but it's never actually sparked joy or happiness in me. In fact usually when I reach any sort of typical achievement or milestone I think to myself, "was it worth it, was it eve FOR anything?", conclude the answer is no and immediately drop whatever I was doing. Job, woman, friends, hobbies, none of them stick.

I was in Kindergarden making a candle for Christmas out of colored construction paper for my mom. I miss how my family used to be. They were festive, innocent, and fun. Now they all act like peacocks and argue over trivial shit while disrespecting each other. Christmas has become a tiresome exchange of gifts nobody really wants or needs and everyone is always trying to buy better gifts than everyone else. Also, all my closest friends are either dead, married, turned into assholes, or moved away and forgot about me entirely. Fuck my life. What's even the point anymore? I want to go back to being 5 again. Fuck this reality.

Probably late last year and earlier this year.

I'm a pretty happy guy. My family is one of immigrants. We came to Canada and struggled in the 1990's and early 2000's. My dad was an alcoholic and we fought a lot. Kicked me out of the house a bunch.

Despite this, I kept going to college/uni. Took me like 7 years to complete my education. Once I did, I still struggled with unemployment and homelessness at times.

Moved to Quebec City. Lived there and got my life together. Eventually, I moved back to BC and it all fell into place.

Basically, since December 2020, my life has been in an upward trajectory.

Got married in 2021.
Got my job soon thereafter.
Got my own home in Jan 2023.
Got a kid in 2023.
Promoted in 2024.
Another kid on the way.

Life is amazing and I guess it always was, but I just let some bad things cloud that. I am also in the best shape of my life and all my silly stress/anxiety magically dissappeared within the last 2 months since I started paying real close attention to diet.

I put the last time I was SUPER happy earlier this year, but also late last year, but I'm pretty happy overall with life.

Happy is for children as they are discovering all things new about the world. Contentment is for grownups. If you can find even a sliver of contentment in adulthood that is priceless. Very rare. Keep chasing happiness and you will have a very depressing existence.
