seems pretty watery
do they have a technique to preserve how wet it is? I guess you could just make the inside 100% humid.

Rare earth mud
Origin: Minamitorishima region (depth: 5,000m or deeper)

This specimen was collected during the cruise "KM19-E02C" of the deep-sea research vessel Kaimei (February 17–27, 2019). JAMSTEC successfully collected a large amount of rare earth mud from the deep seabed using the Power Grab device mounted on the Kaimei.

This sediment contains a high concentration of rare earth elements, which are indispensable for high-tech industries.

Please also see the rare earth elements (Scandium (Sc), Yttrium (Y), and Lanthanum (La)) displayed in the third-floor exhibit "From Basics of Elements and Minerals to Advanced Materials."

Exhibit cooperation: JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology)

So out of say a 1kg sample how much do they receive of these rare earths? A few grams or milligrams? And does that make it an economically viable way to mine them?

Neat. Japan found rare earth minerals. Now the question is how large is the actual deposit? And cost of extraction?

If it's where I think it is, it's an entire island off the mainland.
I read about it a while back, it's been known about for a while.
