Thomas Aquinas
Is one of the most overrated 'philosophers' of all time. Plagiarized his intellectual betters and shoved superstitious drivel (sometimes even counter-biblical) and jewish supremacist thinking into the pot.
Why the hell is he considered one of the fathers of western culture?

He's cited as the father of Christian Neoplatonism
So he basically gets a pass as a bridge between Hellenic traditions, and medieval thought.

>jewish supremacist thinking into the pot.
He literally advocated for not allowing them work in anything other than manual labour jobs and that they should never be allowed to own property.
>pic related
We know what you're doing.

>Again, it is written (Rom 9:5) that Christ is of the Jews according to the flesh, who is over all things
>As is related Gen. 17, Abraham received from God and at the same time both his name and the commandment of circumcision. For this reason it was customary among the Jews to name children on the very day of circumcision, as though before being circumcised they had not as yet perfect existence: just as now also children receive their names in Baptism. Wherefore on Prov. 4:3, I was my father’s son, tender, and as an only son in the sight of my mother, the gloss says: Why does Solomon call himself an only son in the sight of his mother, when Scripture testifies that he had an elder brother of the same mother, unless it be that the latter died unnamed soon after birth? Therefore it was that Christ received His name at the time of His circumcision.
>I answer that, It was fitting that Christ’s preaching, whether through Himself or through His apostles, should be directed at first to the Jews alone. First, in order to show that by His coming the promises were fulfilled which had been made to the Jews of old, and not to the Gentiles. Thus the Apostle says (Rom 15:8): I say that Christ . . . was minister of the circumcision, i.e., the apostle and preacher of the Jews, for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.
>btw jews can stay and live among us if they do manual labor, also if they claim to convert then they should be fully equal and given all the same rights and privileges lol
I suppose you're also a fan of (((Martin Luther))), right, Avram?

The problem with Aquinas is that he was in 13th century trying to write out a grand unified theory of soul and will and so on using what was basically a physical understanding of the body from Galen or various Byzantine medical texts. So you end up with bizarre-sounding claims about things like vision and the nature of the mind and so on. Shit is like:
>Objection 1: It would seem that the voluntative sight must precede the action of the essential will, since as Dionysus says, the sensible image is the instance of the archetype, and its form is cognized in the particular prior to one's coming into knowledge of the class of the thing, and thereby the act of apprehension of the thing seen is the operation of the voluntative sight prior to the action of the essential will.
>Reply obj. 1: ON THE CONTRARY, as The Philosopher says, there can be no operation of two wills in one host, and we must regard then the act of the voluntative sight as an operation of the essential will...
Unless you already accept his terminology and general view of the world, a lot of his stuff is not going to be very useful or even sensible in modern terms.

No, he isn't. He was the opposite of a Neoplatonist, and that's what led him astray: Aristotle.

Similar to how the "creator" of (((western civilization))) (as retards portend) Charlemagne was quite friendly with Muslim leaders (notably al-Rashid) and had a plethora of jewish administrators lording it over his subjects.

He managed to
>offer the best synthesis and reconciliation of the Platonic and Aristotelian philosophy
>reintroduced Aristotelianism in Europe
>offered comprehensive guidance for ethics and political rule that still has influence today
>was incredibly detailed in his explanations and willingly offered counterarguments and objections raised by other philosophers before him
He had a great sense of logic, his arguments can't (or at least are hard) to counter on a logical basis, only on the premise that they are sometimes empirically unverifiable (see Kant). While it is true that some absurd notions can be logically sound and practically implausible (nothing illogical about the possibility of the existence of Pegasus), Aquinas often tries to point out that his notions are so basic that thinking anything other than so would create impossible implications.

Any philosopher who didn't even kill a dozen niggers in his lifetime isn't worth spit.
