Why does capitalism suck the soul out of everything? It's not even just big corporations, even small time actors do it. Every time I look for apartments to rent it's the same minimalist shit with everything painted white in order to supposedly maximize profits.

depends who your targeted market is though, of course. if you're trying to appeal to the rich you want to make things of the best quality as possible because that also increases profits in that market.

OP is just poor and looking to rent poor people apartments, so obviously he's going to see basic styles and workmanship

because capitalism seeks out efficiency. beauty is a waste of money, ugly utilitarian designs are more cost efficient. a middle class worker making a living is inefficient, it's more efficient to pay them slave wages and make them rent for life. small business is inefficient, it's better to have everyone handing over their paycheck to big box megacorps.

I think you'll find it's communists who are obsessed with efficiency, capitalists try to either find a niche or a way to appeal to emotions. Virtually all the modernist designers responsible for the minimalists and anti-traditionalist designs were and are leftists, many motivated specifically by a hatred for tradition and Western culture, calling it colonial and racist.

the wealthy will not buy badly made things, especially when it comes to stuff in their homes anon. of course, you're not going to pay more than you need to at any level of product, since that only rational. but that doesn't mean wealthy people won't commission the highest quality workmanship using the finest materials.

well of course. like i asked you, do you deliberately waste money on things? i dont even know what you're argument is at this point. i mean theres being efficient with resources and paying a fair price for things (does that idea upset you for some reason?) and then theres making substandard goods which is an attempt to cheat people. theres a difference

if you know, you know. if you have money to spend you'll find them. good help has never been terribly easy to find when you look back in history. the best artists of all kinds had to be sought out a lot of time, unless they came to you...and they'd mostly only go to the rich seeking commissions.

your discussion points are based on the idea of the rich being infallible gods who can seek out and validate quality work. most of them are fucking retards. the "mansions" being built today are basically a scaling up of the $600k new construction plywood boxes that an upper middle class retard would buy. they're ugly, poorly built, lack character, and are constructed to a price point.

i grew up in a rural mill town in northeastern pennsylvania with large victorian homes all along main street. they were built in the mid 1800s to early 1900s, they're still standing today. you cannot easily buy quality like this anymore. i'm not even sure you could buy quality like this even if you wanted to pay out the ass -- not just the preclusion of raw materials (can you find continuous slabs of old growth lumber these days?), but the existence of skilled tradesman who have actually practiced these skills in their career as a tradesman.

and of course these middle class victorian homes (they tend to sell for $200-300k today) have much, much more natural beauty and character than any new construction goystable abomination that exists today, whether it's a $600k plywood box or a $1M mcmansion or a $30M nigger athlete mansion or a $100M businessman's mansion.

are you an actual fucking retard? the implication in his post, which went unspoken because he assumed a baseline IQ of at least 45, is that the left (old) is more expensive than the right (new) and that the right (new and ugly) is more prevalent, to the extent of pervasiveness, because it's cheaper.

This kind of artistic architecture was only possible when churches were overflowing with cash and had legions of skilled slave labor available.

And the reason these churches had vaults of cash was because they were taking 10% of everything the poorest people in the world earned. The Vatican has accumulated $1 trillion in wealth, for example. Jewish temples and Muslim mosques are no different.

not really no, what a strange thing to come up with. im just saying that we all look for the best quality for the money we have to spend and the more money we have to spend, the higher quality things we demand for it.
>and are constructed to a price point.
sure. and the higher the price the higher quality we demand.
>can you find continuous slabs of old growth lumber these days?
oh, you can. either from abroad or taken from other buildings.

in a lot of cases i agree. i put it down to a coarsening of taste in general. however, ive also seen new builds (high level cabins especially) that are really beautifully done. it all depends on the expectations, knowledge and taste of the person having the place made for them

> capitalism
It’s not capitalism. We don’t have capitalism. Capitalism was what we had in the 18th-19th centuries that gave us the beautiful cast iron buildings in Pittsburgh and St. Louis. We don’t have capitalism. We have a system that taxes citizens so that a centrally controlled bank can print money to bail out shareholders and inflate real estate prices. That’s obviously a sort of socialism, but a billionaires’ socialism, one that socializes losses of the peasantry to bail out the bourgeoisie and allows them to run wild with their sick ideology all over the place. All that ugly architecture and repulsive decoration is the fascination not of capitalists but of the sickest strain of the bourgeoisie who have never had to worry about the cold hard realities of capitalism. Even the Rothschilds had better taste than the Obamas, for example. Pic very related.
