A shocking case in Myanmar: a 17-year-old girl sold her boyfriend into slavery for $14,000 and then went on vacation to Thailand.

The 19-year-old victim met the girl at a billiard club in China. As their relationship developed, she persistently invited him to visit her relatives, promising him a good job. Eventually, he agreed and secretly left his family to travel with her.

At the Thailand-Myanmar border, the girl stepped aside, claiming she had forgotten something. Moments later, the young man was attacked by armed men and taken into captivity. He spent the next four months in slavery.

He was forced into cyber fraud, had his head shaved, and was regularly beaten-injuries to his head left him partially deaf. Working up to 20 hours a day, he lost 10 kilograms during his ordeal.

The kidnappers demanded $48,000 in ransom, which his family finally managed to raise in June, leading to his release.

Meanwhile, the girl was arrested while traveling from Thailand back to China after her “successful deal.” She had received $14,000 for selling her boyfriend. She now faces trial.
