There are plenty of places with shops in a mile or less, but everyone still drives there because of fat and social anxiety.

There comes a feedback loop in a automobile society where if the majority of people drive, people stop wanting to be seen walking, because it makes them feel awkward.

Yeah, especially in this area. The infrastructure was never designed for as much growth as we've had so there's constant construction on the roads here, making driving even more of a bitch. I once stayed stuck in traffic for close to an hour and a half coming back from downtown Raleigh because of construction and when I finally passed it there wasn't even any work going on, just one guy sitting in a lawn chair next to all the machines.

>Its really bizarre how everything is so far away in USA.
It's pretty straightforward geography, for the most part. There is a unique car culture but it evolved that way in no small part due to the land itself. I'd say there are only a few places where the car culture overrode what might have been a better balance of walking and transit (eg Los Angeles).

Specifically, the US has wide swaths of open, arable land, free of major geographic barriers like mountain ranges, oceans and deserts and which was sparsely populated before the USA settled it. Everything east of 100th meridian gets plenty of rainfall, has good soil and navigable waterways. American towns and cities usually plenty of room to grow outward in every direction, and because it was so fertile everywhere it was relatively easy to establish lots of towns and cities across the country.

With Mexico, on the other hand, the majority of people are crammed into the central regions around Mexico city and Guadalajara, or on the coast.

Prior to the interstate system rail was the primary form of transportation for distances greater than the next town or two over as well. People just stopped using it once they had better cars and roads to get them where they wanted to go. There are defunct rail stations for long dead passenger lines in lots of small towns all over the west.

Go and look into how Fahrenheit works; it is derived from the human body temperature so the temperature can always be figured out. In my ideal society there would be a road network, a rail network, and a walker/biker/horse network.

The preexisting walker network allowed cars onto it and the attending danger and embarrassment drove the walkers out. That also hurts a rail network because how can you walk to the station? Even sidewalks are hurt by car traffic. The best sidewalk needs to be wide enough for at least two people to walk abreast, and it needs to be a far enough distance away from a car road that walkers don't feel in danger. Ideally it should have visual cover so walkers don't become the object of curiosity to hundreds of car drivers driving by.

I think what would probably be best would be to have the original roads be the walker network, then have a much smaller car network built around it. The cars will need to use the walker network to get to individual houses etc, but they will have a strict speed limit that keeps them at a walking pace while on the walking network. Then the walker roads will look more like India, with seas of pedestrians and occasional horses, cars, and bikes moving at a pedestrian speed.

Look at how big this country is you retard. How are you supposed to get around without cars?
>just build trains
Again, look at the size of this country vs a European country and consider how many fucking subway lines you would need. Are you going to have public transit running on a regular schedule to every fucking remote town 500 km away from a major city center? That's the equivalent of having a subway line from London to Paris, except "Paris" in this case only has 12,000 people living there, so now you need to build 1000 of those just to reach every one of those towns.

This applies even to larger cities.
Compare the miles of transit in a city like Dallas to any European city, then compare ridership.
People (and destinations) in Dallas are just so much more spread out that it would take several times more infrastructure to come anywhere close to the relative convenience for a densely-packed Eurocity (to say nothing about east Asian bughive cities).

recently visited a town of Visaginas, built in 1975. Thought it was a shitty commieblock town but was surprised because it has inverted psychology. Entire town is just pedestrian streets with car roads just going around the town. They started ruining the idea since the fall of Soviet Union and the closure of nuclear plant but you can still see the idea and how cozy the city center is. Probably the only place worth visiting in Lithuania because everything else like old town in capital is just a smaller and worse version of german cities.

>Why would I walk to a train station, wait for a train, go through a series of transfers as needed waiting for more arrivals and departures, then finally walk to wherever it is I wanted to go when I could just drive there?
As someone who lived in the middle of a large city for years... driving and parking downtown can be a fucking nightmare. Usually, you'd have to pay up to $15 to park in a garage or paid parking lot because all of the public meters would be taken. Taking the bus/train is just easier and cheaper most of the time.
Obviously, this isn't an ideal environment for someone who has a family and is mainly concerned with transportation speed (taking the bus is always slower compared to driving yourself).
The biggest problem I've ever had with public transit has simply been the existence and prevalence of niggers.
It goes without saying that public transit would work way better and be way cleaner if there weren't so many goddamn niggers

Jews are the ones responsible for car dependency. They don't want the goyim having cheaper options like biking or walking.

Quite the opposite Chaim,
jews want bikes, jews want walking, jews want little 15-minute walkable goyfarms littered with jeet puckey, with trannies and endless brown pastures of cultural slop to graze.

They do it indirectly through wagie exploitation where they can make you utterly dependent on your wagie cage 100 miles from where you can find an affordable dwelling.

That's why the US, the most Jewish country and cornerstone of all ZOG, is the most car dependent country in the world where walkable cities have been made illegal? You're not fooling anyone, Moshe.

There would be no modern society without cars, transport and logistics. It would take forever to move and spread resources and consumer products, like food, across the cities.

Yes, but you do not understand why or what the real tradeoffs are.
At least, not in a serious geographic context.
Europeans always have very facile views of city design and take many aspects about their environment for granted.

learn to recognize pajeet threads. learn to stop giving (You)s, which end up as rupees, to OPs like this. jews pay pajeets to spam this board en masse with the same globohomo agenda that you're still associating with only jews. since 2023 you are much more likely to see jew noise posted by a pajeet. there are a hundred times as many pajeets as there are jews. if you want any part of the internet to survive, you must detect, reject and redeem pajeets everywhere you find them
