So the criteria for being classified as transgender is ticking a box on an anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire is optional, which to my mind suggests that transgenders are more likely to participate.
I suspect that if the threshold for transgenderism were raised to "has ever talked to a doctor about transgender thoughts" then you would see the number shrink by at least two orders of magnitude.
