Hi /pol/. You don't know me, and I don't know you, but I've been trying to counter you chuds for what feels like my entire life on the internet. I have several advanced degrees, as do most of the people I know. We're smart, we're progressive, and you're just a bunch of stupid chud bros being edgy on the internet for the lulz. You don't care what the consequences for spreading your hate and vitriol online are. Your attacks on women, minorities, the most vulnerable marginalized people--I've spent every year since gamergate doing what I can to mitigate the damage your toxic ideology could do to our societies.

It all started with GamerGate. I hate to admit it. It sounds corny and cringe as fuck, but that was really the opening salvo. That was the point where it wasn't just le shock le edgy meme culture anymore. There was a real, serious, deep seeded misogyny and antisemitism, and I've been taught my whole life that there's nothing worse than that kind of atavistic hate, that history will always judge you by whether you were on the side of inclusion, empathy, etc, or the side of hate, ignorance, whatever. All the way up until the end I believed these things. I believed I was on the right side of history, that you hateful bigots would eventually LOSE.

I never imagined the Trump would win in 2016, must like many of my progressive friends and colleagues. We were shocked when he won the primaries, but we were sure he'd lose nationally. Then he won the general election. It hurt, but the pain only ignited a fire in us, a resolve to fight for progress, for what's right. All that came to a head again in 2020, where it was more important than ever to defend those who are weakest among us from a deadly virus, and then also, with BLM, the intersectional nature of these struggles to protect the weak and the marginalized with the fight against systemic racism, misogyny, etc. It all seemed to make so much sense...

When we won back the White House from you fascists in 2020, it felt like a vindication of everything we had been struggling for. I ignored the obvious cracks, the signs of trouble. It was weird that it took over a week for them to count the votes, but I just chalked that up to another weird COVID thing, much like everyone else I knew. Then J6 happened, and it seemed to justify everything we had been trying to warn people about, Trump, fascism etc. And yet, in the back of my mind, I knew something wasn’t totally right here. I remembered all the energy people had put into BLM. Most of the protests were peaceful, but there were major riots, including in DC. At one point they even almost stormed the White House. I remember this because I remember gloating with my progressive friends about Trump being rushed to the bunker in the basement. But now we were cloaking ourselves in the flag and law and order as soon as the shoe was on the other foot. I didn’t like hypocrisy, but I shrugged it all off. The feeling of victory was too intoxicating.

I realize now that all of that was just fleeting. We ignored our own misbehavior at our own peril—and we ultimately wound up turning people against us in a big way. Not just that, but after years arguing against you fucks on all those things I felt the most morally certain about, civil rights, racism, sexism, etc, well, let’s just say you autistic fucking chuds have shaken my confidence in more ways than one. But I’m surrounded by people who are still progressive. Most of the smartest ones, however, have completely flipped their politics since 2020, and honestly, I have a difficult time blaming them.

It’s wasn’t just COVID. The problems were much deeper. I remember being actively involved with a lot of socialists and Bernie Sanders movement types back in the day. I remember how the entire thing got derailed by what you guys call “woke.” It all made so much sense at the time. But in retrospect, it was really ridiculous. I feel stupid defending it now, although I still do, just to save face around my friends. Every discussion it seems we tried to have would get derailed because someone who was browner or queerer or some other stupid fucking thing would want to say something and start dominating the space and if anyone tried to get a word in edgewise without being even browner and queerer than that person they’d get jumped all over for being “privileged.”

I really don’t have a hard time understanding why we’re seeing this big backlash against woke now, in retrospect. However, I can’t say this around any of my progressive friends. They’d eat me alive. They’re trying to figure out how to regroup, how to counter “Trump’s fascism,” how to keep doing everything like they had been before, but just with better optics. But for me, the moral agitation that kept me going for all those years from GamerGate up to 2024 is gone. I thought Trump would lose for sure again in 2024. Of course, the economy was bad, but I thought we were just BETTER than that. But I guess we weren’t, although, to be totally honest, I’m not even sure what better means anymore at this point. Maybe we’re the ones who are wrong, if we’ve turned so many people against us, including latinx’s and other people of color?

Well, this is actually pretty interesting.

My story is that I was a Ron Paul libertarian who ended up getting sucked into the hilarious chaos of this place.

I remember being extremely put off by the racism here in the beginning, but eventually it just became a pressure release valve for what EVERYONE is thinking under the surface so I just went with it for the most part (within certain limits).

If it makes you feel any better, we have all pretty much been had by Trump since many of us imagined that he had some kind of sincere desire to actually reform something instead of simply being the biggest pedo/zionist enabler imaginable.

Disillusionment is a major part of growth, and if your "progressive" friends cannot handle any kind of basic truth, then maybe it is best that you undergo the painful process of being ostracized so that can evolve into something better despite them.
