Drastically altered material conditions and scientific progress during the 19th and 20th century made the Christian God irrelevant. Biblical stories became distant and alien in the minds of Europeans. The churches attempts to brute force faith didn't help either, since it only made people reject it more aggressively.

Christianity is dead in the 21st century, and nothing will ever bring it back. You can't revive a dead religion. People just can't start believing in magical stories that goes against reason, especially when those stories are 2000 years old at this point. Anyone who tells you otherwise is LARPing.

Not true, science was always used as a method to learn how God created the universe/ the mechanisms God put in place to explain how things work. It was understood that humans did not create anything through scientific research it was simply learning how things work of what God already put in place. Down the road science became corrupted changing from discovering how God's creation works into man claiming they created through discovery and it turned into a process of attempting to disprove God's existence. Essentially man's hubris corrupted scientific progresses original purpose. Ironically you saw some of the greatest leaps in every field of science when scientists explored with a pure heart of trying to explain how God's creation works instead of scientific discovery for their own vanity.
