I think everyone is going to end up signing some kind contract where you agree to live on the campus of some tech giant with your implanted brain chip and just experience your ideal personal virtual world and whatever you don’t like about it you can tweak until it’s perfect for you and the company in exchange gets the right to use your body however they want for research or energy generation or whatever, as long as they don’t kill you and try to keep you as healthy as long as possible as science continues into the future and everyone will just choose their little virtual utopias for over the real world. Why keep struggling to pay for things as inflation and the job market gets worse and worse when you can just go and spend however long you have left to experience things, only doing things that you want to do. Only experiencing things that are fun for you, and never needing any money or resources again. It sounds insane but ultimately almost everyone will pick that life in the end sense it offers them everything they could ever imagine wanting for free. No possible consequences ever. If something goes bad in your fake world, tweak it, change people so they agree with what you’re doing. Everything is customizable. Nothing can every be not how you want it because if it is you can change it.

The idea at face value makes me sad and sounds dystopian, but when you really think about what it will be like, once you join up and start your life in the matrix, it’ll be perfect for each individual that does that. There’s no need to feel bad about the state of the real world as long as it’s stable enough for your real body to keep your brain alive so you can keep experiencing the fully immersive virtual reality. Another crazy thing to consider is that because it’s going to be possible soon, and because of human nature and what the demand will be whether any individual wants to admit it or not, this future is inevitable.
