There are two possibilities, either the ayys have morality or they don't.
If they do then maybe the operate on a Star Trek prime directive and on a limited basis they guide us for our own sake.
If they don't then for all we know we're an experiment and the ayys will gladly wipe the slate clean if we don't meet their expectations. Or they farm our souls or some shit and we're cattle.
