In other words, toss out foreigners, and prices of existing houses will go down.

For newly built houses, considerations are a bit more involved, as prices still need to be high enough that the builders do not take a loss. However, this can also be achieved through simple math: If the final price is too high, reduce the price's components. For example, if you reduce insulation requirements, requirements for "renewable" energies (where they exist) or, as an extreme example, repeal building codes altogether, building houses will be cheaper. All but the last one are actively demanded by rightwing parties all over the world.

Finally, in a working family, you do not need to pay for housing, but can build your own home during time off, together with your father, cousins, uncles and brothers, on land your family already owns. Blood and soil removes the housing problem alltogether.

Property owners want prices to increase and at this moment more voters own property than rent across the (Anglo) world. A "solution" to unaffordable ownership involves people that own properties to enter into life crippling negative equity. There is no political party that would win reelection after doing this.

To expect land owners and property developers to not maximise their profit via their own assets is to expect them to act irrationally against their own self interest. Land is bought and properties built using very narrow profit margins. Property developers need to know that they can sell a large number of properties in any new development either off plan or soon after.

The moment house prices stagnate or drop is the moment that lenders stop providing mortgages to the every day purchaser on terms that they do now. You could spend your 20s and early 30s saving for a 10% mortgage deposit only for lenders to decide that they now need 75% LTV in order to minimise their risk in a rapidly deflating market. The 2008 solution to this was further state involvement.

In quite a few states if you're 65+ you even get a massive tax deduction for your properties, not just your primary one.

First of all cities are where mass cheap affordable housing for poor people has always been. Right now our cities have been ethnically cleansed by an army of mulatto colonists. In particular, since no one trusts the dollar, no one wants to sell their real estate, since real estate had in effect become people's savings account to deal with the inflation. What people don't seem to understand is inflation makes saving money impossible, which is obviously horrific for an economy.
