Also imho that if we get a lot of social instability from tech/AI shifts it is going to be the religious that will be able to handle it better, having a more firm and stable moral and ethical base to work from. Maybe that already describes the current situation more than a generation into the internet age.

I don't know that I agree with that. Being secular is one of the core beliefs of the current collective of the left. To be 'in' with that group requires conformity of thought, so being secular just goes with it. I think this social order of the left is a bigger thing beyond religion - it is huge - it is a pan-human meta-national emergent social structure that is probably partially socially engineered - or at least social engineering is a component of it.

The fact that its core beliefs are nonsense and self-destructive are almost incidental to its current existence.
