In Aus the law states you can only use equal and proportional force in self defense cases. So if someone attacks you with fists, you can use fists, a knife, you can use a knife, a gun, you can use a gun, a tank....not sure we've ever been drunk enough to try that.
It's a fucking hilariously archaic law left over from frontiersman tier law where fights ought to be fair and it's still used throughout the commonwealth in NZ, Canada, not sure about the UK.
Sewell won't likely get charged with anything, the protest was perfectly legal, there was a million cameras filming the assault, it's clear as fuck that he didn't throw the first punch or instigate the altercation, but the cops love to harass him so they'll make him jump through all the hoops they can.
