virtue signaling does not mean it has to have anything virtuous actually in it.
virtue signaling is a survival mechanism humans developed evolving.
when people were unable to keep up with the rules of the tribe, they were kicked out, and they died.
so humans evolved to have impulses where they try to show conformity to the rest of the tribe, by doing acts that show they care a lot about the rules of the tribe to signal to that they should not be kicked out. but in actuality, they do not follow many of the rules that actually require effort.

if people virtue signal but they know they are acting for the sake of getting something in return, they are grifters
NPC are not aware that they even virtue signal, is natural, for them, is dna they simply do it,
also, 60% of the population is NPCs, you cannot fix it, but some individuals can break out of it, I'm an NPC too, I still feel the impulse coming, but now that I'm aware, I can govern it.
when an NPC is also ambitious, narcissistic, or manipulative, they don’t just signal; they escalate the standards to control hierarchies. they push ever-more-extreme displays of "purity" to:
climb social ranks (by being the "most woke," "most dedicated," "most pious", etc.).
exclude rivals (since anyone who doesn’t meet their new standard is now "problematic").
solidify in-group loyalty (forcing others to keep up or be ostracized).
This isn’t just about looking idiot, it’s social engineering disguised as morality. and they move the overton window doing so.
In short, if NPC claim that your pic is hardcore porn they are beaming virtue like a fucking vulcano, the impulse is satisfied and the dopamine runs abundant in the brain, which feels good.
