It's not a hell ruled by demons, it's just that most people have always been and refuse to rise above the level of always selfish and sometimes purely predatory animals. If anything good has ever been done in history by great men to advance the human race (it has) it has been in spite of, not thanks to, the actions, opposition, and indifference of the masses. If we as intelligent men find a herd of useless and often hostile cattle staring back at us when we preach goodness, even in the highest places where we would least expect to find them, that is just routine and has always been part of the game. The work of the great man is not merely to develop and teach the right doctrine, but to push it through against all the resistance of the established powers and authorities and the ignorant masses they rule. Expecting a mass collaborative work or large co-op in this very PvP world -- which is the dynamic the masses have chosen -- is just naivete and ignorance of history. You literally have to save the masses against their will and find ways to force them to salvation, they have never advanced willingly, not even one step. You will find maybe a handful of fully-engaged collaborators across a lifetime, the rest you have to condescend to and meet on their very limited level, speaking to their narrow personal priorities rather than to the good of the whole. That is why so much ultimately has to be accomplished through the power of the state. 1,000,000 people will accept being taxed $10 to build a railroad between two major cities, but less than 10% of them would voluntarily give the same amount even when the benefits are explained to them!
