I can cound the number of 450 pickups Iโ€™ve seen irl on one hand.
That said, new car prices are indeed crazy high. The lots look pretty full, so I guess enough people are buying them to keep the lights on, or maybe itโ€™s the mechanics keeping the dealers going. Additionally the prices of shitboxes seems to have dropped to almost reasonable levels.

that's a 450 platinum trim, they've always been retard expensive. they're meant for hotshotters who make good money.
the problem is the half tons. ford/gm/statardus were only making high end models for the last few years, which pushed prices through the roof. an xl 4x4 half ton should cost ~40-45k. good luck finding one though.

My fleet after relocating
1. 1998 Ford Escort wagon = 35MPG
- $500, came with new battery and snow tires. I have invested
- New struts (total pain) $300
- New summer tires $400
I have driven it 14,000 MI so far
Insurance + Non-insured motorist + roadside is 50/m

2000 F350 7.3
Cost = $0 (No one else could get it running)
This was a gift from my boss as it sat for 7 years.
Total investment
- New heater bowl $60
- 2 new batteries $500
- Door lock actuators $30
- wireless key fobs $15
- New door locks and ignition $25

It also had about $2000 of suspension in the back seat, I havent dont that yet.

It gets about 16-17 MPG going over the mountainpass, which is where they are supposed to be, but it makes a little piffing noise, so probably exhaust leak somewhere.

Never buy new, anything, its all shit. Total shit designed to break after 100k.

Anything after 2006 is garbage for the most part.

It doesn't bother me what vehicle people drive, that's a lame thing to worry about. What bothers me is HOW people drive. A vehicle like this should require an advanced license which you can only obtain by working your way up from a little jelly bean baby shoe car and having zero accidents etc.

Nobody is entitled or Constitutionally enabled to drive any vehicle of arbitrary size on the road. I rented a 30-something foot moving truck, kinda like a box van or whatever, the big Ryder truck to move one time and I could have easily crushed any normal car or SUV like it was an insect. I don't think it would have even slowed me down lol. I became great at driving that thing but any shmoe can rent one - that's the crazy aspect to this long story. Those are massive compared to an F450.

It's a very strange economy. My clients are much richer than me, and they're all getting way richer. My earnings are at all-time highs, as are the values of my real estate properties, and my stocks. It's all gone wacko. My stocks were up about 6% just today, and there have been many days like that recently. Everyone I consider a peer is getting richer faster than expected. That said, the stuff I'm interested in buying is also going up pretty quickly. But my debt is locked in at fixed rates, so the amount of cash I have to spend now is frankly shocking to me. I am not unusual. Too much money printing is coming home to roost.

If you're invested, you've probably seen 20% already this year. That means fuck all to Joe Schlub whose $40k retirement went up to $48k. But it means a lot to a guy like me with $1m in the market. I have made more money in stocks than my actual job for 3 straight years.
All that does is increase the rift between the haves and have-nots. I feel like I'm cheating seeing $250k-300k added to my net worth in a year, when all I did was put money in stocks.
Most of my peers are bitching and moaning about company match on their 401k, as if $4-5k makes a difference in life.
I look down at my phone at 8am and see +$12k movement and all I've done is take a shit so far.
The gap is only going to grow. Or the dam will break and this whole scam will collapse. I'm an itty bitty small fry. Imagie what guys with $10m invested are seeing. $4m in a year for nothing but investing? Crazy.

nominal growth paired with trade war turmoil in supply chains, unreported/unclaimed unemployment (everyone doing gigs), no affordable housing with mostly unaffordable/unwanted housing being built with interest rates high and steady. You are seeing stock value growth but it's mostly driven by capital looking for a warm place to park that isn't currently failing. It's warped market situation that will whiplash backwards. Billion dollar question is when and how.

A very interesting take. It sure does seem like fantasy money at this point. I do know the earnings vs. valuation ratios are all kinds of of wacky now. Companies trading at 30x their actual income, how the fuck?
It sure seems like it ought to collapse, but we've been past the insanity line for a while now, so maybe this is just the new norm? A generational ponzi scheme? A lie so big they can't allow it to be exposed?

>cclb 4x4 with the 7.3 gas actually got built six months later. They offered me 72k for my 2wd one. From order to build msrp increased from 65 to 76, my out the door net trade was 50k for a much better truck

>and the used market is fucked too

Yes, but not in the sense that you're implying.
Used sale prices hit the wall in late 2022 and have been steadily nose diving ever since. The one thing that was keeping the market somewhat above water was illegal immigrants. Even just a 25% reduction in that population will prove catastrophic for used pickup values. It's already happening in areas where illegal migration had flourished.
I'll probably go back next March and through October to see friends and family. I'll likely grab a dozen clean used pickups and stuff them in my family's machine shed and sit on them until the market rebounds in 8-10 yrs or so. That's probably when you'll see a spike in demand for certain types of fullsized pickups again.
The used car market was how I was able to retire early and live abroad at 38yo.
