Nope. There are 1.4 billion people in india, and 124 million in Japan. Ergo, india has 11 times as many people as Japan. So, for indians to be richer than the Japanese, their GDP would have to be at least 11 times higher. But in fact, it's only about 2 times higher (based on purchase power parity; nominally, their GDP is about the same). So, let's look at the per capita GDP. india's per capita GDP adjusted PPP is about $12k. Japan's is $54k. So Japanese people on average are 4-5 times wealthier than indians.
