Having their funding cut will hurt them. Thing is, each part of PBS is locally funded. The money they get from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting helps them maintain programming in localities that are more unprofitable. That is, primarily poor, rural areas in red states. You know, where it is needed the most.

The government is usually involved in giving grants for things that are needed but either can't generate profit or don't need to generate profit. In the case of rural broadcasting, both. It's the same reason USPS has to exist as a government service. Besides the fact it is constitutionally mandated, mail delivery to rural areas is not profitable. But mail must be delivered, it is an essential service, so the government provides it.

That is the issue. What PBS does with public funding not only isn't " needed ", it is a detriment to the viewer and the country.
PBS used to live up to their stated mission with their programming choices. During that time nobody minded them being publicly funded.
Now that a large percentage of PBS programming is colored with their attempts to induce guilt in their viewers for being white, western, or/and American, and to induce fear and guilt in their viewers about " climate change ", then what did they expect?
For how long should PBS continue being paid with public funds, to bash their viewers?
