They are open to spirits without discernment. They are easy marks. "I've never felt more at peace. I've never felt better. It's as if everything makes sense now." Anything that feels spiritual must be good. The brazen foolishness is that they never considered that demons are spiritual and can ape "the good."
Protestants are akin to pagans and occultists in that they willingly open themselves to any spiritual experience, and no surprise spirits come through the breach and interact with them.
