The Three Worlds model refers to alignment in the Cold War. During the Cold War, there was a face off between the two global superpowers, USA and USSR. Those aligned with the USA were First World. Those aligned with the USSR were Second World. Those that were neutral were Third World.

Because the Cold War is over, there are no longer any First, Second, or Third World countries. And that map is grossly inaccurate. Sweden and Switzerland were neutral and non-aligned and should be marked as Third World. Much of Latin America was aligned with the USA from Operation Condor activities and should be marked as First World. Chile for example had the infamous dictator Pinochet who was supported by the CIA. Chile was indeed First World.
