I hunt animals for sport using a shotgun. After I shoot an animal I leave its body, since I never intend on using them for food. This is my hobby and favorite sport.

Shooting pests is extremely based. Also shooting diseased animals is extremely based though not for eating of course. Shooting common and healthy animals for food is extremely based too.

In the late 80's a buddy of mine and I were taking his little bro on his first dove hunting trip near Chrysler proving grounds in AZ. We eat what we kill.
In comes a brand new rig full of wealthy hunters with a Scottsdale plate bracket.
They started blasting dove with no plugs in their magazines. They shot hundreds and left them lying on the ground. They were loud, boisterous and throwing beer cans.
Although it was our spot and we were there first, we quietly withdrew a quarter mile in the only dirt road in. We stopped, dug holes with pick and shovels then drove greasewood sticks in the bottoms of the holes and sharpened the tips. We cover the holes with cardboard and dirt .
This was before cellphones.
We went back the next morning and saw they had blown all four tires, drive in the rims for a while, and had to walk out in the heat with no water full of alcohol.
Someone had used their new rig for target practice, we never found out who.

Fine with me, those aren’t native. Squirrels and turkeys are I think? I would only shoot something native if I was starving and had to for food, I don’t care about body littering if it’s a pest species at all though.

There’s immoral hunters here who leave scores of kangaroo bodies around and we tend to not like those types

Invasive species were introduced by white people and wreak devastation on native wildlife, so if you really did care about the eco system, you’d want to undo the damage the species you introduced are causing. If that makes sense.
For example foxes here kill all of our native wildlife and we get wombats and koalas dying. So by shooting a fox you are saving hundreds of koalas.

I never understood the stink about Pink-eared Ducks being hunted. My only concern is they aren't eaten and many are maimed rather than killed outright. Their numbers are more dependent on wetland health than anything else.

some ducks are fine as they can be considered “game” but we have allocated areas and specific rules around hunting those and it depends on the duck species , also can’t do it outside of “duck season”
