AI has its purposes but all of the public facing slop generators are a waste of money, resources, and energy. Sure AI can generate pictures of a high quality but it only can do so by using high quality art to train from. Imagine if all GenAI was trained on DeviantArt material. Nobody would be using such slop generators if that was the case.

they are mechanically incapable of producing results outside of the sample data as all they do is abstract a prompt/seed image/seed string and apply the model to it section by section

every single part of every single image a GAN outputs is lifted from an image it was trained on
every single next token in the string an LLM is iterating appeared somewhere in it's training data

so if it produces a piece that looks like an artist's distinct style and said artist wasn't paid then whoever trained the base model stole that artist's work
the generator part of the name is a legal defense not a practical description
