I was in-processing for Army Basic Training. The opening ceremony for Basic Training was either that day or the next day. I didn't see a video of it happening for like 6 months because I had 9 weeks of Basic and 16 weeks AIT(Job Training).

You are too busy to think about anything during Basic. But there were people speculating that they might shorten basic or send us all to infantry school afterwards. But those theories were shot down pretty quickly. You don't start a war with training people less. The Army would use the soldiers they already have before doing something like that. No one knew anything though because no TV and no phones.

I was 6 and living in NY at the time but not in the city. On Long Island.
I remember the teachers acting weird and leaving the classroom a bunch of times while the rest of us played around. Then the announcements came on and a bunch of kids were being taken home by their parents. We thought it was cool and kept hoping we were the next ones to get called. Finally my mom came and picked me up, and her and my older brother were listening to the radio silently before we got home and sat in front of the TV with the rest of the family watching the news.
I knew something was definitely wrong because of how everyone was acting but I wasn't paying attention to the news. I was really thinking about going in my room and wanting to play Sonic Adventure but I figured I'd get in trouble if I did that so I say and watched the towers falling over and over on the tv.
Kinda weird how I can still remember that 25 years laters

Grew up near DC. Was on a school bus on the way to a field trip in elementary school when the driver got a call over the radio to turn around. By the time we got back to school, it was complete chaos with parents running around picking up their kids. Nobody told us what was going on the whole time until I got home.

I was at my moms and she had it on TV. the first tower and they thought it was a helicopter. I put a VHS tape in and hit record. 15 - 20 minutes later a plane flew into the other tower. I was like WTFFFF? I still have like 6 hours of that station recorded on VHS somewhere. I went to work the next day and told my boomer coworker it was definitely not Osama like the news said and he thought I was on crack.

Playing with friends after school, once I saw the news I thought it looked like a trailer for a new movie.

I was at work at an Areospace Machine Shop who did work with Lockheed Martin and the Shuttle program. The first plane was thought to be a horrible fluke, the Second brought the realization that something fuckey was happening and the attention was turned to tv news stations. No smart phones at the time and flip[ phones were brand new. The third which was the Pentagon was the kicker and we thought there was going to be a full out hot terrorist war. I later found out that a friend was pn the third plane- Brian Sweeney- All Americans came together and it wasn`t safe for a middle eastern tp be caught on the streets. Middle aged men with military experience rejoined to fight in the middle east but during that time restrictions were put on the soldiers from doing their jobs and getting them killed for no reason. The war on Osama Bin Laden was a joke. Lost 3 friends to ieds. 2 were in the same truck. TBQH the covid fiasco was a worse psyop
