I get a lot of shit for it because it's primarily a redditor talking point, but car-centered infrastructure really is a nightmare.
I was driving back home from my brother's college graduation about 3 months ago, and I got rear-ended hard as fuck in the parking lot because an old lady was on the road.
At first I was angry at her because she didn't know how to drive but... What the fuck else was she supposed to do?
An 80-year-old woman who can barely see or think straight should not find it fucking mandatory to get behind the wheel of a car, or else she'll miss her granddaughter's college graduation. People with illnesses should not be completely fucked and written out of being able to visit basic destinations without having other people help them.
Basic public transport should just be a default expectation in society. People who are old or infirm in one way or another shouldn't just be stranded. Hell, even just not liking traffic should be a valid reason to not drive. You can't blame people for entering dangerous driving scenarios they don't want to be in because they have no fucking choice.
