go to the best training school you can find, especially those that do longer mroe comprehensive courses instead of just getting you past the test. you'll find the extra weeks will help you a lot and companies will choose you over other new drivers.
always just take you time, keep good distances at all times, and be smooth. when in confined areas move super slow and never be afraid to get out and look.

there. those are my top tips.

not really a big deal unless its a steer tire. ive a few trailer tires go, but they were old and the trailer was overloaded. did have a steer go, but it went down slowly and just happened that it was the end of the day anyway and i was pulling off into a truck stop for the night.

basically, if you're running on the highway and you keep checking the tires like your trained to do then blow outs dont really happen.

This guy sounds about right. I was a long haul driver from '77 to 2010. I look back on my career in the industry and smile - ahh, the good ole days, yup. There's nothing like it bros. Just you and the open road. Best part about it is that the truck is so tall no one can see in the cab so you can fap pretty much nonstop. I wouldn't trust a trucker without his dick in his hand. airplanes are a whole different thing to have a truck operate itself in traffic and changing weather conditions. no kind of transportation is fully automated (ship, train, aircraft) unless it runs on its own dedicated infrastructre and thats not happening for roads any time soon.
operating a heavy vehicle on the public highway is probably the most complex environment of all for a computer to manage. its not happening soon.

I did a stint of it in Australia. I could manage but I fucking hated it. Having to maintain unwavering concentration for at least ten hours a day driving along endlessly straight roads I did not find fun. Painfully boring. On momentary lapse of concentration and you could kill someone. Too much responsibility for the pay. Too many fuckwits on the roads doing dumb shit. Too many cops just waiting for you to make the smallest mistake on the road or in your logbook. Too much time away from home. Too tempting to spend your money on junk food. I could see it would wreck one's health. Plus the flatdeck I was driving was jittery as hell, bouncing you around, it was not comfortable in the slightest.
All credit to the guys who stick with it, mad respect and all that, but it was not a lifestyle I wanted so after a year I got out.

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/are-we-in-the-great-trucking-recession-a-look-at-the-numbers-the-pain-and-what-comes-next

The trucking industry is in a really bad state right now. Between all the foreign drivers that have flooded the industry for last twenty years and especially the last five years and the bar of admissions being lowered has resulted in stagnating wages. 25 years ago a driver needed to be able to drive a standard transmission and be able to find locations with just an address and map along with some other skills that aren't needed in today's industry. The result of GPS, automated transmissions and a countless other automations have lowered the bar of entry so low that a monkey can literally do it and the full on automation is not that far off. All this will result in even more prolonged wage stagnation for the foreseeable future. Yes you can still eek out a half decent living possibly but your going to have to sacrifice for it and that might be okay. But ultimately there is no future in trucking long term, if you're young you are way better off picking any other profession to get experience in, you might make more as a trucker right off the bat for the first couple of years but you're upwards mobility will be capped whereas other professions have a lot more room to grow in. Basically trucking as we know it is a dieing industry and if you are under the age of 33 I would highly recommend picking something else to get (valuable) experience in and not wast any time in trucking.

>Redpill be on trucking, good or bad

It's chill but it has sucky parts, like any job.

99% of the time you're just holding the steering wheel and cruising on the interstate. You can listen to podcasts, audiobooks, every album that ever existed... great job for an audiophile.

The sucky part is backing. Luckily most modern Distribution Centers like WalMart will be easy to back into, but there are some absolutely cursed delivery spots in like Massachusetts. Also, when they teach you backing in trucking school, it will be the middle of the day in full sunlight. It won't be at 11 PM at the truck stop where you're tired and suddenly need to back between 2 other trucks.

The rest of it is just whatever, the paperwork and routing and scaling are pretty easy if you're not a retard. Like if you're literate and can follow simple instructions it's fine.

Foreigners have absolutely ruined the industry but they've been so deeply embedded into now that to believe that politicians are going to take away the American Trucking Association's cheap labor is being extremely naive especially when it comes to the industry in Canada. The time to have done something about this problem was twenty years ago, the powers that be are going to keep with the cheap low IQ foreigners until automation takes over the bottom easiest routes and portions of the industry, most LTL freight will be very easily automated soon enough and that will put tremendous upward pressure on the driver demand side of the rest of the trucking sectors. In simpler terms I don't foresee another "drivers market" maybe ever again and that means that the trucking job will just always go to the lowest bidder.

Probably 40% of the trucking jobs are shit, you'll spend hours sitting in parking lots unpaid waiting for wagies to load or unload a truck. There's a reason why trucking companies are full of second/thirdworlders. It's easy for Trump to wag his finger and say they all have to speak English, but the reality is white people don't have the patience for that job when external issues by freight companies/warehouses cripple your number of paid working hours. I've been there, you don't want to sit in the shitty rig for 5 hours, because someone won't answer a phone or tell you at the last minute the place you've been driving to is not the delivery location.

decent companies know this. even in canada you'll find that most non-jeet owned companies dont have many if any jeets in them. the reason is that decent companies want to keep their ratings up (companies are all rated according to several metrics related to safety of driving, equipment, violations of all kinds etc, and its all online). Find a good school that tries to really train you rather than just do the minimum it takes to pass the test.
You can also get hired to do something like drive a dump truck, which means youโ€™re home every night and youโ€™re not trying to maneuver 60 feet of vehicle.
If youโ€™ve got a cdl, itโ€™s easier to get into working heavy equipment like dozers and cranes, and that can be really good money.

definitely. companies recognize the extra time and money you spent trying to learn and it will help you get on with them. Here's something i learned too - try to get on the highway first. dont get into local dispatch straight out of school because you're going to spend most of you time in all the smallest nastiest little yards and stuff, and you're not ready for that yet. Get out on the highway and put in the hours just driving the truck. It makes a difference. just every day moving on the road, fueling up, parking in truck stops or whatever, that all adds up to make you better in the tight yards where you need to feel whats going on by instinct.

and when it comes to that i disagree. companies want to keep decent driver from quitting and going someplace there so, in my experience, they are more likely to work with you when it comes to time off, better routes, preferences for working hours and stuff. what would you do in their situation - piss off decent white drivers that you know you can trust by giving them all the shit, or throw the jeets at it and see if they can cope, knowing theres a hundred more useless jeets there they came from? the latter is what jeet companies do to the other jeets because they are nasty fucks. the former is what smarter white companies do with their valued drivers, because they know theres less and less of us around and they know whats going to happen if they cant find any more.

This was my rig for about 6y. Ran dedicated fleet for P&G. Out two weeks in for about 3 days, most times requested to stay out. I had nothing when I went to trucking school. Beyond broke. It was my apartment on wheels. Got a hotel room when in. Eventually bought a house. Sold it. Later went into air freight. A few miles to the airport and back to the freight forwarder. Easy bucks. When I was on the road the weekdays were a push but predictable. The weekends were relaxing. Grilling at the rest area or catching a movie when parking was around. Park at the yard and go to a pub up north. It was nice. Had no worries about bills or home. If it wasn't for trucking I would have been homeless. Not bad coming up for a 24yo 99lb female. If I can do it anybody can do it. Can still read the trucker's atlas with ease. Traffic around DC was bad, DFW always sucked still does. NYC those people go during rush hour, go with them, it was easy to cross the GWB and scoot thru. Mostly interstate and you already know the city will require attention. Stay alert. Always look at your fifth wheel with a flashlight even in the middle of the day to make sure your pin is locked when you hook up. Don't ever skip that step. Always make sure the grommets are good on your glad hands. When you get out anywhere always walk around and look, touch, smell.for any issues. If I wasn't old now, those condos on wheels would be a dream. I had my old cab over buckboard a cooler and Jerry Orbach reading books on tape. I would have thought I was in heaven having a mini fridge and a tv. It isn't a hard job. It can be monotonous. Don't let it be. It will get to you if you do. Make your own food as much as possible. Never assume anything and don't quit on your worst day. Stick it out. It gets better. Backing in anywhere isn't hard. It just takes patience. Keep your cool know your surroundings take your time. Never be late on a load, don't whine. Do your time in the trenches then upgrade.

Horrendously hard on the body. Its one of those jobs they will try to automate soon. In the US it doesn't seem to pay that well on average. Probably not a good idea.

Last place I worked, manufacturing and fabrication shop, almost every time a jeet driver dropped off a delivery, the jeet would try to get one of us to reshuffle his load for him. Sometimes, thatโ€™d happen 2-3 times a day.
We never did. One of us would usually say something about how they should have gotten the load in order at the yard or shipping hub.
And if there was a driver who couldnโ€™t back their rig in to our bay, it was ALWAYS a jeet.

The trucking industry is the most effected profession by cheap labor. The first thing every newly arrived immigrant attempts to do is get into trucking. Getting into this industry now is absolutely pointless for a young white man, all it will do is waste valuable time that a young person could be learning and getting experience in another field and all you will accomplish is getting left behind in ten years from now. You act like things are going to get better somehow, you act like people are going to wake up all of a sudden and reverse course, well it's not going to happen they are deeply embedded in the industry now especially in Canada, hell the last I checked your largest fleets are jeet owned and operated the jeets are the industry up there now. Why in hell would any young halfway competent White man want to put himself in a position where he has to endlessly compet with an endless supply of cheap imported labor in an industry that will also be going through dramatic changes in the next ten years? That is just fucking crazy unless you have no other options or something. If you're 55 years old and just looking for something to do until you retire then I guess go for it but that is an extremely different situation then a 23 year old competent White man looking to get in it.

Not sure why people keep saying that. Its no worse than sitting in a office. A truck chair is actually much better. Just work out on off timenand stretch during breaks, lol.

a good trustworthy white guy will always be able to work as a driver if he's got a good record or, if new, shows a willingness to work. thats not going to change, no matter how jeets they throw at us. all your doomsaying means nothing to me because i know from personal experience what its like. And sure, becoming a driver might be one of those jobs for when you done have many other options, but that doesn't mean you dont have to strive to do a good job or have high standards. jeets cant really do either of those things except the rare one that isn't <90iq. its a realistic way for us to make good money in a short time and get ahead to where we wouldn't be able to get in most other professions and that by itself it worth thinking about.

what you might not realize is that people were saying all the same shit you're saying now 10 years ago. none of it has happened apart from some shitty cameras watching you in the truck, and not everyone bothers with even that much. when i was training there was all the same stuff about automation, immigration and so on but here we are, same as it was back then. dont be such a whiner.

You are totally missing my point. Of course white men will always be wanted in the industry, of course a white man will always be able to work in the industry but you will have to settle working for peanuts and make pretty much the same as the jeets that do a shitty job. Why would you want to do that? Why in the hell would you want to waste your talents and time making just a little bit more than the reckless jeets who are willing to work for 1/4th of what you are willing to? And I know damn well what people were saying ten years ago and I know what they were saying 20 years ago!! Do you think things are better now in the industry than they were 10 years ago? NO THEY ARE NOT!! A lot of what the more reasonable people were saying 10 years ago are happening and have happened. You do what you want but I'm here answering with some advice. Do you think I like what has happened to the industry? Do you not think that it pains me more than any one else reading this thread to watch what has happened to it? I'm just being practical about it and to think that there is a future worth getting in to this profession is just being overly optimistic and extremely naive.

and i think you're being overly dramatic and unnecessarily negative. a young guy goes gets his commercial license today or next year and whats he going to get? with a bit of luck he'll find a decent little company and be making good money which will enable him, after a couple years work, to get a little house somewhere and lay some aside for later. it will mean hes got a useful thing (his license and experience) which can mean work doing the same thing or help getting into other lines of work too.
what do you think guys like me are planning on doing otherwise? you have a lot of negative shit to say but not much else.

this 100% just because you drive for hours on end doesn't mean you have to chain smoke and eat shit all the time. its what you make of it. i knew a guy did ironman races and was driving truck. had a bike bungeed in behind the cab and would ride on the reset days. i see others parking by the gym and using it to work out and shower. i used to go for long walks wherever i ended up doing the reset (36 hours off to get your driving hours back) and ate homemade (home milled wheat) tortillas with a bit of salad and cheese 2x a day.
theres no need to eat the shit you'll see in the truck stops and no need to sit around unless you're in the drivers seat.

thanks anon. perhaps we had some miscommunications along the way but all im saying is that getting your CDL isnt a waste of time. like you said, use those first years to make good money and then if you dont like the way things are going, what have you lost? nothing. youve probably got 100k banked after 2-3 years if you're smart and a good resume. if its not all doom and gloom you can carry on a bit and do just fine.
thing is that for those of us for whom driving is a thing, its not like we're missing our calling as rocket scientists or anything. its just another way that we can do to find a way ahead. it worked out really really well for me, and i think it can for others.

oh for sure. you find a good school and you'll be getting taught by guys who've seen it all over several decades. you learn a lot from guys like that. but dont choose the cheapest course you can find. read around, see what people think of the school you're looking at. maybe even call some companies and tell them you want to drive and which schools do they think are good

Download CDL test prep apps and use them. Usually the free versions are enough to pass. The only test that requires some studying and memorization is hazmat but, at the end of the day, itโ€™s not really that difficult.

It's a big commitment, so I'm still thinking about it, and it's expensive, one school near me that a guy I know went to, it costs like $5k for a 4 week program but they seem like they got good reviews and stuff
Should I get a CDL for stick shift? Does that matter? Most trucks are automatic shift nowadays, right?

I see. To answer your previous question, itโ€™s a good idea to learn how to drive a manual and avoid what they call an automatic restriction on your license. Plenty of fleets are moving to automatic these days but there are still some companies that use manuals. Itโ€™s really not that hard
