Im actually surprised. Ive just known them to be an invasive species where i live and they can be killed anytime anywhere. But i looked and they are invasive on the west coast and originate from eastern north america.

Not necessarily. They have a similar niche. Things dont have to change much look at alligators. And even then niches create similar animals even from disperate sources. For instance many different branches of the evolutionary tree evolve into crabs.

They would be equal to each other mostly except the grey ones carry diseases they are resistant against while the red are not.
