You also need to make it a viable community, what you described is an example of the ad hoc failures when creating a society/community (which is what you strive to create).
So there has to be a clear goal that is shared, perhaps based on minimum requirements that everyone has to work towards and a shared cultural basis (like being Orthodox, Baptist etc).
For instance, a certain number of hours of community work to keep shared spaces clean and well kept etc.

You also need an idea of what size you need to have a minimum viable society and what infrastructure that is required.
For instance, water, internet (shared expense), electricity etc... and how many are we talking about minimum to have something like your own school and kindergarten?

If you want your own schools but can homeschool, then perhaps 5-10 kids each year is sufficient.
With high fertility (3 kids per woman) and 20 years at first child for the second generation, then we are talking about a minimum size of ~70 adults.
To fill a class room every year (+15 children, preferably ~20) you'd need 3x that (this is fertility dependent, more kids per woman => smaller society is viable).

So for phase 1, with pooled homeschooling, 70 is enough and the ambition should be 210 adults in child bearing age and willing to make babies.
This is at least if you want the structure to last more than a decade or two.

1.6 acres of land can grow enough potatoes to feed a family of 6 for a year. potatoes are already really space efficient, but yes there are always better ways of doing things. it's nice to get feedback that the method mentioned does not work. i saw one guy from wales on youtube growing potatoes under piles of straw, and wrapping the seed potato in wet newspaper to get it to germinate. when it's time to harvest, you just pull back the straw and pick them up. less cleaning, less chance of leaving some in the dirt or hacking them up with the shovel.
potatoes and other starches are what you can live on. everything else is just a side/flavouring/vitamin source. you could have a barn full of cabbage and still starve to death if that's all you had to eat. not so with grains and other starches like potatoes, gourds, peas, beans, etc. they are also more resistant to crappy weather like we had this year. potatoes have every nutrient you need save b12 and vitamin d, which comes from the sun. and pretty much the only people with actual b12 deficiencies are people that have been in accidents or had bariatric surgery where they can't absorb nutrients properly. b12 is actually made by bacteria, and you do make it internally. but apparently all the forms that have been found aren't absorbed back into the body that far into the intestine. that being said, there are still tons of these bacteria we know nothing about and have barely studied, and for all we know they can make all the b12 we need.

Potato varieties matter. Determinate potatoes will grow in a horizontal disc under the plant, whereas indeterminate potatoes will grow in any available direction and have more vertical spread.

If you grow determinate potatoes in a box or bucket, you'll get a handful of tiny potatoes and nothing else below it.

As for why nobody grows potato boxes commercially? Lumber is expensive, hilling is more labor in a box, and the root structure is more likely to get waterlogged so it requires more supervision.
