What happened is that republicans are continuing to be delusionally overconfident, the same exact way that a political party is insanely overconfident every time they win a presidential election right before it very predictably comes back to bite them in the ass, so they're clutching at any statistic that makes them feel good
In this case, it's a net swing in party registration towards the republicans during Biden's term. Missing context is that this is what happened a couple of years ago, and this always fucking happens during a term with a president of the opposite party
The republicans, given Trump's poll numbers, are very, very likely to face a blowout in the midterms. Gerrymandering isn't going to save them, in fact, while they can probably eke out a few more seats by gerrymandering than the democrats can take away from them, it might not do them any good at all if they are perceived as initiating a gerrymandering war (which surprise surprise voters are not fond of). Trump's plans to stop mail in voting are also not going to be popular. When the inevitable blowout occurs the people jerking themselves off about how THIS IS THE DEATH OF THE DEMOCRATS will be seething.
>inb4 UR JUST A DEMOCRAT
I saw literally this exact same hype cycle during Bush's presidency, you dumb niggers, but sure, tell me how it's actually for real this time
