To my knowledge blacks are more integrated in southern society while in Chicago you can either see 80% whites or 80% blacks depending on the area.

i have the distinct privilege of living in a small florida town that killed and drove out all of the remaining blacks when one of them tried to vote like a century ago. there were zero in town til the 80s. even today, people in my neighborhood proudly display confederate flags in front of their homes. pretty comfy. although things have gone a little downhill, as my kids are usually the only ones with blonde hair at the playground. makes them easier to keep track of at least.
