99.99% of people who go through those programs are not prodigies. You can start racing at age 5, pick up a foil before you can walk, or ski every day of the season for your entire life, and you will never be as naturally skilled or driven as a prodigy. You think 40 year old grand masters just didn't train as much as the 12 year olds? No, they did the same things or potentially even more. It's just that hours spent are not 1:1 between people. You can still reach great heights if you sink your entire life into it, but you will never be the best.
You think Bobby Fischer was groomed from birth into a chess master? He was just more talented, more interested, and better than everyone else.
