American roads are not the same as european. Your roads are all large, straight lines with clear visability. Euro roads are the opposite. You buy a McPickup you are guaranteed to crash it in to something, if its the drivers fault or not.

Where did this narrative that big pickup trucks kill people come from? I've never once seen anyone produce a single bit of data that they are involved in more accidents with pedestrians than any other kind of vehicle. People just started screeching about them killing kids out of nowhere the last 5 years or so.

Sedans are designed so if you hit someone in the front it knocks their legs out from under them and makes the person fly over or to the side of the car. Pavement princesses are tall and flat in the front so there's nowhere for a pedestrian to go so they take the full force straight on or go under the vehicle.

Modern chevy is garbage. But the LS series of motors is one of the finest ever manufactured by humanity imho. What you people could never understand is that complexity and improved performance isnt inherently good. It has to outweigh the negatives. The LS (generally) had good performance, was repairable, simple, easy to work on, robust, fairly reliable, etc.

VVT is probably the greatest abomination ever foisted upon the automobile. Particularly when coupled with a dual overhead cam.

Hilux is mostly a meme derived from people who watched television programs about them. Not that they were bad per se but people who made them famous were in third world countries and they had to make due with what was available and they did make due. But the vehicle itself is i fervor to many others.

For example I could make a serious argument that you could take like a square body chevy from the 70s and it was superior in every category. Big naturally aspirated v8 simple/robust motors. More power. Cheap parts. Easy to work on. Solid front axles etc.

>Lexus and Toyota – over 100,000 cars recalled for engine failure

>Toyota is facing one of its most expensive and complex recalls after discovering a defect in the V-6 twin-turbocharged engines powering both the Tundra pickup trucks and the luxury Lexus LX SUVs. This issue affects vehicles from the 2022 and 2023 model years, specifically those produced between November 2021 and February 2023, and for the Lexus LX, from July 2021 to November 2022.

>What’s wrong with these engines?

>The defect that triggered this large-scale recall can cause the engine to stall suddenly while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The root of the problem stems from machining debris left inside the engine during production, which can lead to engine knocking, rough operation, difficulty starting, and, in the worst cases, total loss of power.

>In May 2024, Toyota notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of this issue. At the time, the company estimated that only 1% of the 102,092 potentially affected vehicles might exhibit the defect. However, this figure was largely due to limitations in NHTSA’s reporting system, where Toyota explained that it was unable to provide an accurate estimate of the number of vehicles affected.

>Drastic solution: complete engine replacement

>Two months after the initial filing, Toyota still had not determined exactly how many vehicles were affected, leading to a radical decision: replace the engines in every potentially impacted vehicle. This means swapping out the engines in over 100,000 vehicles, including approximately 98,600 Tundras and 3,500 Lexus LX SUVs.

>So far, this solution only applies to non-hybrid versions of the 3.4-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engines (designated V35A). The hybrid Tundra models are not included in this recall because, in the event of an engine failure, their electric motors can still provide power to the vehicle.

Yeah, in order to actually get any use out of even just a quarter ton pickup truck you need to:

>own land/property (truck for hauling furniture, trash, landscaping equipment, yard debris, towing trailers towards those ends etc.)
>be willing and able to work physically (fix things in your home yourself, work on projects outdoors, lift heavy things in and out of a truck, etc.)
>enjoy off-roading in the abundant wilderness (driving in any 4x4 area whether at the beach, in a desert, in the mountains and forests, etc.)
>have a sense of self-reliance and independence with things in their lives (an attitude of "I'll handle things myself" and the spirit that they can do whatever they set things minds to do themselves)
>have a strong desire for freedom (a hatred of feeling that they live their lives completely at the mercy of more capable people)
>enjoy being a helpful resource to friends and family (reveling in the ability to use your capabilities to the benefit of the people you love and hold dear)

When I think of European men, none of these traits come to mind. They're more the types who don't really own any property or land, who don't even want to own vehicles much less do anything with them, who call other more capable men for help and to save them when something needs fixing, who exist as helpless burdens on everyone around them, unable or unwilling to put in the effort to solve their own problems.

You're right, these vehicles would be wildly unpopular in Europe.

I can (and have) replace some of my motors with brand new crate motors for the same cost as full replacement of a turbo assembly on alot of turbo diesel trucks. Repairability/replaceability IS reliability.

VVT is literally adding about 100 new points of failure (chains/belts, bearings, etc.).

Failure of timing related components is one of the easiest ways to cause catastrophic engine failure. Does it seem sensible in your tiny mind to add a timing system on top of your timing system? And then doubling it on a DOHC? It increases mechanical complexity. It adds more points of failure. It's location makes the motor much harder and more expensive to work on. At every single level it is inferior? And for what? So that the cost can be passed to you and you can comply with govt efficiency regs?? You people really are marks. You are being abused and you like it.

The small old ones are always snapped up by spics, so if your dad doesn't give you one you're basically fucked in regard to fuel costs if your job requires hauling. It's a mobile work bench. A mobile couch. A mobile cleaning bench. A mobile tool box. A place to throw beer cans. A place to throw dead animals. A place to haul gas cans. It helps you do yard work. It helps you transport lumber and fence wire you name it AND it gets you from A to B.

It is totally political and it will never change if people don't stop just rolling over and pretending trash isnt trash.

Drivetrain is the heart of any vehicle and are the most important part to me as if they fail I’m fucked. Frames can come and go especially if you live in a hostile environment where they rust away no matter what. I want peak reliability and modern vehicles do that pretty well.

The drive train and motor is the heart of the vehicle, true- but just think for a second what those components are literally doing mechanically. Think of the wear. Think of the complexity?

They are consumables ultimately. Long term consumables but they come and go. A good truck is one that it makes sense to replace the motor in.

You're full of shit. Change your oil and your timing change will last the life of the engine. A timing belt can break and destroy the engine.

My old nissan truck uses a chain and the tensioner is hydraulically actuated (uses the engine oil pressure to tension it) so when you first start up it used to rattle like hell and eventually eat away the chain guides. I found an aftermarket part where the tensioner ratchets (ie gets tighter but never looser) and it has worked perfectly.

Timing belts are extremely durable. I work in automation and we use them a fuck ton. As long as they are tracked correctly (not really an issue in a car) they will last many many miles. Just get it replaced at the correct intervals and you will be fine.

You can throw dead animals and canisters in the back or on the roof.
Clean the fish at the fishing spot and bring it home in a fucking bucket.
Most places you wanna get here in the wilderness already have "white" roads.
Being able to throw garbage in the back simply doesn't warrant all the drawbacks of owning a truck here, especially these modern mass monsters.

The list of things you can do with a bed vs a van is so gigantic though it starts to sound almost illogical to justify the van over the truck honestly. Stop thinking about all the connotations and memes and stuff. Just think about the enclosed frame of a van and the open box on a truck. One is clearly more useful for certain things it's like sandbagging to try and argue otherwise.

Animals on the roof? What do you tie it down kek? Then what you have to spray the van down when the blood drips all down it and around the door etc? Again this is just one example. And with cleaning fish the tailgate is like having a waist high mobile table for that purpose.

Use those brackets to tie shit down, like luggage etcetera.
I don't hunt but I think they put animals in some kind of bags before transport them idk, all I can tell you they predominantly use caddies.
Im fact the enclosure is better than transporting anything in the open.
As much as I try to think of some use a truck would provide over a van here, I can't find it.

Like I said the list is endless. I mean just this last week I used the truck as a scaffold to work on the barn. I used the tailgate as a work bench while I was doing it. Saturday I pulled the truck under a big wild grape vine high up and stood in the bed and knocked the grapes down into the bed and collected them. I carried a few six bar fence gates last week- and that would not fit in a van most likely. I cleared up a bunch of briars and stuff around some fences and used the bed to haul them to a burn pile etc etc. I hauled a mlwer on a trailer earlier in the week. This is all in just one week.

And this doesnt even get into the usefulness of the 4x4 for getting places.
