He illegally entered the US. It doesn't matter what he did past that. He is not a legal US citizen. He tried his hardest to stop his deportation back to his home country, but that doesn't give him the right to stay in the US. They offered him a deal to deport him to to some other shithole that was at least a little bit civilized, but he himself asked not to be deported to his home country so the US picked a random one for him.
