You should look at what the tax rates were during the "golden" age of America in the 50s and 60s. There were loopholes that the wealthy took advantage of back then but I was amazed when I learned we had a 90% tax rate on the highest earners at one point and today the poors kvetch when the rich are threatened to be taxed above 40%.
That and private equity firms being taxed at 20% by using maritime trader loopholes from 300+ years ago to avoid paying higher capital gains taxes of 28%. It is cheaper to spend a few million dollars bribing congress to keep the loopholes in rather than pay the extra 8% in taxes. And the people elected to represent you keep doing it because they get more money that way.
And since greed of politicians is the true root lobbying and investments by congress, their spouse, their children, their aunts, their parents, their grandchildren, their cousins, etc should be banned. Allow them to invest in ETF but not individual stock. There are also too few representatives. 2 congressmen per state is fine but 1 rep per 750k or 800k or whatever it is now is way too far off. Our representative limit should not be based on 1910 population. At minimum needs to be 1 rep per ~60k people if not per ~40k people. If you are a representative why would you care that 100 of the 750k people you represent shows up to protest what you vote for? You will get 20k or 30k in lobbying for your vote so you just ignore them. And then act surprised when people get violent against you.
