I don’t buy this line of thought. Because ultimately you can’t keep society running if you have too many of these dependents. The likely answer is in fact, the elites just want the GDP line to go up forever, it’s simple and straightforward and explains exactly what we’re seeing without any ulterior motivation. This is all true, but the stories Cummings talks about in the civil service is mental at how terribly they manage things. Nothing about them is an "elite" and their incompetence is even worse than the Soviet "elite" before the collapse in 1991
