The economy there is doing "better" as far as inflation, but Milei seems to be selling out infrastructure to foreign investors (mostly Israeli).

I was there last month and I don't see how people can survive. They get paid an average of $340/month but even a basic U.S.-tier fast-food meal costs $17 for what I'd pay $14 for in the U.S. Even shopping at grocery stores was relatively expensive; I bought some eggs 'cause I wanted some breakfast, and IIRC it worked out to fifty cents per egg, whereas in the U.S. right now I would pay about twenty-five cents per egg.

Also, while I was there, the legislature and Milei passed/signed a law changing how doctors at public hospitals are paid, which they are all bitching about. It will probably destroy the public healthcare system and force everyone to go private, which in a way is good, except that during the transition most people aren't going to be able to afford medical care.

The nurses were already pissed off and had banners flying from their hospitals complaining about wages.

I've read, here and elsewhere, that Milei has strong support in most of the country, but I didn't see that in Buenos Aires. Instead I saw demonstrations against him and a lot of flyers, banners, protests, and graffiti claiming that Cristina Kirchner (former president from a few years ago) is being "persecuted".

I found it somewhat interesting that Argentine hotels all seemed to have full kitchenettes and plates/utensils in them. Literally every place I stayed had these. I've never seen that at a hotel in the U.S. I would guess this is because people can't afford to eat out at restaurants so hotels cater to people who still need to travel but need to scrimp on everything past the hotel room.

BTW, a typical restaurant bill worked out to around $35 to $40 for a normal midrange restaurant. They were almost all excellent quality, but that's 10% of a typical monthly wage, so not something that most of them can do.

Anyway, I really have no idea if the economy is actually improving or not. It certainly doesn't seem to be good for the average person, but then again, I only hung out in Buenos Aires, which as the center of government is going to have a lot of pissed-off former government employees who hate Milei for firing them (even though they needed to be fired).

Oh, one last thing, it looks like inflation is still running about 7.5% per month. Much better than it used to be, but still insanely high. If I go back a year from now, the 10,000 peso note that I still have left will have less than half of the purchasing power it did when I did the currency exchange (about $8.62) -- even after just two months it's only worth $7.35.

It's so bizarre, I don't understand how life goes on there.
You read and see so much about how Argentinians eat out all the time, their cafes and restaurants always look packed in photos, literally how? Is there just a massive wealth inequality where there are two classes of people, some being dirt poor and the others barely even worrying about money?

He's not. He does seem to be weirdly obsessed with his dogs (which are clones of one that died), though.

One of the odder things about BA is how many dogs people have. And there's dogshit all over the sidewalks. I managed to avoid stepping in any for almost a month, but got nailed one night in a low-light stretch of sidewalk.

I do have to hand it to them, though, they banned pitbulls and seem to take it seriously. I only saw one shitbull the entire time I was there and it had a heavy-duty wire muzzle strapped over its jaws.

>You read and see so much about how Argentinians eat out all the time, their cafes and restaurants always look packed in photos, literally how?
Most of the restaurants seemed pretty empty the entire time I was there. I only had trouble getting in to one place, and it was "mentioned in Michelin" and was always packed. Funny thing is, it was the second-worst restaurant I went to in the entire time I was there (and if you adjust for pricing, it was the worst).

>Is there just a massive wealth inequality where there are two classes of people, some being dirt poor and the others barely even worrying about money?
I think that's part of it, but I only saw a few high-end new cars the entire time I was there (one Audi that has only been out recently, one Porsche SUV). Most people seem to drive the same styles of bottom-tier compact almost-falling-apart cars, just a very few varieties (IIRC Renault and Nissan) and they were all really similar in appearance. So, I don't think there are a LOT of these high-net-worth types, and/or they're trying very hard not to show their wealth in visible forms.

Privatizing everything fucking sucks, I get the basic idea if a shit government has had it for years and done nothing because corruption. But once it's privatized it very quickly rorts citizens as much as possible.

We did it in Australia with roads, we pay taxes to build roads, then they're sold off and then we have to pay tolls to drive on them. Our fossil fuel companies pay little to no taxes, we're getting raped.
Look at the UK with their trains, I wont quote you their prices because you wouldn't believe it. Private companies formed price cartels.

Overseas cars markets can be pretty different to America, they're just more expensive overall and there's different cultures around them, New Zealanders for example are famous for driving absolute shitboxes right down to their expiry even amongst those with the money for something better. Argentines might be more worried about ostentatious displays of wealth because it makes them a target for theft for example.
But yeah very interesting. I just have this impression of Argentina being all about eating out at cafes all the time but maybe too much of the population has been priced out of that now.

Yes and no, depending on how you look at it.
Milei does a lot of showmanship around what is essentially an austerity plan - that is his policy. Did he reduce the deficit, stop inflation spiral and brought the country on the path to recover? Yes. Is it good for an average Argentinian? Not in the sense that his quality of life directly benefits from it. It only prevents things from getting much worse.
To give you an equivalent this is something like restructuring a corporation to avoid bankruptcy. Entire departments get removed, excesses are curved, pay is slashed, but in the end the finances straighten and the company can recover. Now imagine this but on country scale.

Milei is a cautionary tale of anything at all. He's necessary only because of 3rd world gibs spiral and even the characterisation of his is tailored so he could be discarded on a whim if needed. People get angry at reduction of living standards? Ok mang you live in democracy vote him out. They vote him out and his replacement oh so forgets to revert the policies. The austerity goal is achieved while keep their faith in democracy.

There didn't seem to be a lot else to do there. I'm not the dance-club type of person, but everything else I looked for, I didn't find. No fishing charters, not much in the way of tech or "maker" type stuff. I guess there's a theater scene but since I don't speak Spanish I didn't bother to go. Not even any real strip joints, closest I found was one place that had a "revue" in which some tranny spent most of the time telling dick-size jokes with occasional interludes of take-off-a-few-clothes-down-to-bra-and-panties "stripping".

I spent six weeks going out to eat pretty often and working on my own writing. Lots of nice people there, a few complete dicks, some excellent restaurants (favorite was a place called Foga Ahumados), that's about it. I've heard other areas are both cheaper and nicer, especially some German-ish town in the mountains where there is fly fishing (but it's midwinter and fucking freezing right now).

There are some relics yeah. They have been trying to privatize a lot of it but the results weren't great. Public transportation for example became worse.

I really don't know. I mean, Buenos Aires is probably pretty rich from all the government workers. But easily 90% of dogs that I saw were tiny little ankle-biters, probably more like 95%. There were a handful of absolutely beautiful German shepherds, though, like "these dogs should star in dog-food commercials and porn videos" beautiful. And as I said, I only saw one shitbull the entire time, which was great.

The insanity is part ot the appeal he had to his backers. I don't know how much you observe this kind of stuff but back in like 2017 the ruling coalition of populist left and right parties in Italy broke down, leading to reformation of a government by an establishment politician(Gabrielo Monti). He introduced some austerity measures that were obviously unpopular but most likely necessary and this most likely led to the current mixed right wing coalition government in Italy of which two thirds are what you would call "alternative parties"(FdI and Lega). That these parties tempered their rhetorics is irrelevant because what matters is that the establishment, composed of completely compromised and controlled people with their giant networks of nepotism was heavily damaged and there was a lot of personal loss. Meanwhile the RW coalition is able to continue the austerity policy while not getting associated with it.

Now here comes Argentina and Milei. A madman. A guy who wore cringy superhero outfit on the tv. Said he'll bring a chainsaw to the state. This crazy madman introduced austerity which imo long term will be unpopular, but it's also necessary. Then the crazy madman can be disposed and establishment parties can bring back to their nepotism networks while not having to worry about the state on which said networks depend collapsing due to insolvency and the things that made austerity unpopular will just become normalised and won't be reverted.

The first thing he did when he won was go to CHABAD synagogue HQ in New York. He has his own rabbi. Like he would his soul for worldly power. He went to go touch the wall, I remember watching a pathetic video of him in an interview saying “the first thing I will do after I win, is go to the wailing wall in Israel” proudly

There was stories about jews buying up lots of land in Argentina after a mysterious arson fire burned up a lot of land and properties
Maybe someone has the story, people were talking about it on here. So this slimy fuck Milei started selling all the natural resources and land to the jew mafia and Israel dirt cheap after betraying his people in Argentina

No, it was on here. Maybe it wasn’t “proven” but there was arsons and fires and they didn’t find the suspects, but jews are interesting in buying up land and properties there and he happily obliges them and sells things to them dirt cheap
Guys a slimeball, he even sent his country’s gold reserves away mysteriously without saying anything about it

Argentina suffered under leftist economic ideology which not only collapsed your economy but made your entire society worthless. Milei is turning that around.

Not really. Meanwhile the leftists that ruled Argentina quite seriously made the economy a complete ruin and destroyed the currency. Leftist ideology has poisoned Argentina completely that's why Milei is fixing it now. The leftist hyenas like yourself just want to steal from peoples taxes and make up lies to defend it. I wish he shot people like you instead of just firing you from your fake government position.

memes aside, consume is under a historical low, it is pretty bad, those cafes and restaurants are EMPTY, back in the day we had people from Europe or the US spending money, but now our country is far more expensive than Dubai.

he is still going to do great on next elections people have faith, he is like a Moses guiding the jews, he even makes that analogy, he sees himself as Moses.

He has a very solid speech despite most of it being false:
He is Moses
Anything that is remotely good is caused by him
Everything bad is caused by a socialist past
Democracy is not that good, sometimes he has to overpower congress
Government MUST NOT serve the people, the private will do
Therefore government stopped doing a lot of things BUT IT TAXES FAR MORE THAN BEFORE (in terms of amount of money, less taxes for new cars, or high wages).
So the government is not doing much (infrastructure, health services, etc) but they still get the money, where? their pockets
Argentinian FED is still here, he never dynamited it, in fact it has more power now
Constant talks with the US FED, he is not printing more pesos, but, he wants the US to print US dollars for him (debt)

there is a lot of similar fuckery that makes no sense, IMO the end is near
